One Of Many On The Beach

Pacific Beach is the most popular beach community of San Diego. The hotels along this stretch of sand are pretty expensive and the BW Blue Sea Lodge is no exception, but the price of a room is less than others on the beach in this area, so in that sense, it is a budget hotel.

I haven't stayed here, just passed by.

Best Western usually offers a clean and safe place for travelers to stay. It is located on the corner of Pacific Beach Drive and Mission Boulevard and the part of the building that can be seen from these streets looks unappealing. However, it is a "U" shaped building, the center of which has a pool and a spa. It opens onto the PB Boardwalk and beyond that the Pacific Ocean.

The prices are high for the simple amenities offered, and the per day parking fee seems outrageous to me. I should say that, I would never pay extra just to be right on the beach at PB in the first place, but if you really are thrilled by the idea of being this close to all the action, BW Blue Sea Lodge offers a ringside seat. The price of a room ranges from $125.00 for a standard King to $175.00 for a Queen ocean front room and that is Off Season!

I would add, that if you stay here and just want beach city amenities, you won't actually need a car.

Unique Quality: The unique quality of this place is it's location. They offer the basics in amenities and they do have a little coffeeshop type restaurant area, The Coastal Cafe, they call it. Most importantly, they head their website with the promise of, "Gracious hospitality and Beautiful beachfront." All true.

They do offer rooms with kitchenettes, which adds the posibility of saving while on a family vacation.

A Spurge thats worth it

I've stayed here twice now, and its been a great experience both times. However, the price is definitely a killer if you are on a budget. You are paying for a fantastic location, you can literally walk out onto the beach from your room if you want!! The room itself was nice, we did have a fridge and microwave, which could help offset the food cost, if you are staying for a while. Thank goodness for Best Western Travel Gift Cards!! PLUS you have to pay for parking!! Wasn't too impressed with that.

Unique Quality: Location, Location, Location.....
Its amazing the difference in price of a hotel a block or two can make!!

Hotel on the beach and close to Sea World

by TripAdvisor Member ishouldbediving

We stayed at the Blue Sea Lodge for two nights. I think this may be an older property that has been renovated in the last few of years. The hallway carpet was somewhat worn and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint. The room had a microwave, small fridge, coffee maker and a sink with a small breakfast bar. My daughter wanted to make hot chocolate in the microwave but could not get it to work. She used the coffee maker instead. One of the lights in the room did not work either. We had to carry our luggage up one flight of stairs to the elevator because we didn't park in the parking garage. To avoid the stairs you must park in the parking garage under your room's building. No other complaints. We stayed in a room on the second floor that had a balcony overlooking the pool and the beach. The only thing that separated the pool from the beach was a sidewalk/boardwalk. I loved the location. It was a five minute drive to Sea World. There were restaurants and stores within walking distance. We loved being so close to the beach. My daughter liked watching the surfers. One morning, from our balcony, we saw what looked like 5 or 6 dolphins or porpoises. Overall I liked this hotel.

Hotel is right on the beach!

The BW Blue Sea Lodge is right on the beautiful Pacific Beach in San Diego. Wake up to the sound of the Pacific Ocean and magnificant views of the waves and surf rolling onto the beach. Take a stroll along the walk and grab something to eat at one of the great restaurants on the way.
This is a very clean hotel, lots of space in the rooms, partial or full view of the ocean, comfortable beds and surprisingly quiet for the prime location right on the beach. Close to La Jolla, downtown San Diego, Sea World and Balboa Park. This hotel is perfect for families and yet romantic enough for a couple. Don't forget to enjoy the heated pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean. This hotel will not let you down for comfort and value.

Pleasant hotel

We have just returned from BW Blue Sea Lodge in San Diego. It was a nice hotel. Great Location, within walking distance to a lot of restaurants, Ralph's grocery store, and not far from the Zoo, Sea World, Lego Land. It was my husband and I and our toddler son that stayed here. The rooms were comfortable, our room even had a little breakfast counter with a sink which was great. The staff at the front desk were freindly and helpful in some suggestions of where to eat. The pool and hot tub were wonderful. Pacific Beach is definetly a party beach especially on the week-ends. Our room only had a shower-no tub. I am not sure if all of their rooms are like this or not, the elevator was out of service and the parking spaces are very, very, very tight. Overall this hotel was clean, great location, comfortable beds, it was wonderful having a microwave/refridgerator in our room. Our room was on the pool side and it was nice as you could also see the beach from it's location. It looked like every room had a balcony with chairs which was nice. Joe's Crab House was a pretty good place to eat along with Nick's.

average hotel, but right off the boardwalk and oceanfront

by TripAdvisor Member visitingthewest

The room was small with partial ocean view. We did not use any facilities there as we were only there for 24 hours to visit family and watch the sunset and enjoy the beach. For the money compared to other hotels on the water it was probably the most reasonable. Enjoyed the restaurants next door and shops.

Great location; suggestion for breakfast

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel had a great location, but the room was small for a family of four. The sofa sleeper wasn't very comfortable, but the bed was.

Since this hotel doesn't include breakfast, I would suggest Lana's Bake Shoppe for a continental breakfast. It's next door to the hotel, and the pastries are delicious!

Okay, but not a great place to take the family

by TripAdvisor Member cupcake3439

This hotel is average at best. The rooms are small for a family of four or more and the atmosphere is more party oriented then family oriented. The hotel pool is okay, but the jacuzzi was filthy! The good news is Pacific Beach is right in front of the hotel. The bad news is Pacific Beach has alot of seaweed, flies, and homeless people urinating in public.

OK at best

by TripAdvisor Member pepper3245

We had an OK stay ay best, we paid full cost for 4 nights ($215 per), ended with a partial ocean view on the 2nd floor. A very small room (I'd say 200sq ft). It's like one of those hotel/motel/lodges which is on it's last legs which can't be fixed or not worth fixing (ie squeaky floors/thin walls). At best it is a $150 per night by ocean, or an $99 per night inland lodge.

This hotel made my trip!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Mike1111

For the money, I think this was the perfect hotel. Very clean, comfy beds, large bathrooms. Right on the beach and a short walk to Garnet Ave.(great shopping). Supermarket and internet cafes are right across the street. Even with a busy lobby the staff was still very friendly, polite and helpful.

Where to stay in San Diego while visiting Sea World

by jagantravel

Hi,

I will be reaching San Diego on April 16th (night, actually I will be driving from Grand Canyon).

Planning to visit Sea World on April 17th (Monday)- whole day.

1) Could any one suggest me in which city to search for hotels (or any affordable hotels nearby)
2) Is one day enough for visiting SeaWorld. The next day I will be driving to Los Angeles to visit DisneyLand/Universal Studio's.

Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

One day is fine for SW. Mission Beach has a few beachy motels that you should be able to show up and get an ok rate in April on a Sunday. Doing Dis and US in one day is ambitious but unlikely to succeed b/c you'll get caught up in Dis. I'm not a Dis fan, but it's a lot more charming than US. ciao

the most reasonably priced hotels/motel are in the area of san diego known as hotel circle. the scenary is yucky (freeway, malls, businesses) but if you just want a place to sleep, you should head there.
if you want to stay close to the beach and more lively restaurants, check out
the catamaran
ocean park inn
the bahia
best western blue sea lodge
surfer motor inn

check out this website too - any of these would be alright but some are not within walking distance to the ocean beach - http://gothere.com/sandiego/MissionBay/Hotels/hotel_directory.htm

I agree with Itt. Hotel Circle is very closed to Sea World and you can sleep for a few bocks.
