San Diego on a budget...
Hi everyone! I know you've been asked this question a zillion times, but my husband and I will be spending a couple of days in San Diego next summer, and I'm already looking for a place to stay. I've browsed the web to find some nice hotels and I feel everything is really expensive out there!!!! I didn't have so much trouble finding a cheap decent hotel in SF, and I thought it was one of the most expensive cities in the US! So, all that we have is a 100$ budget for each night, and we'd like to be not too far from the beach because we intend to spend our first day swimming and sunbathing (by the way, what's the nicest beach for that in san Diego? Del Mar seems really nice on the web....). Then we, of course, want to visit the zoo, so a place next to it would be perfect.OK, I hope I'm not too demanding and you'll be able to give me a few cheap but nice addresses!

Generally you'll find better room rates on the weekdays around San Diego, and weekends in San Francisco...so plan accordingly.

if your priority is price, location and doesnt matter of the hotel grade level, i recommend you to bid the hotel through priceline.com
you can check the updated bidded price through www.biddingfortravel.com for recent bidded price and hotel through that forum and bid it at priceline.

The beaches are free, so you don't havae to have a beach hotel at least not on a budget. Two areas of San Diego that are nice but budget right are the Hotel Circle area of San Diego near Old Town with the other being over in the Pacific Beach area with a few hotels like the Days Inn Mission Bay under $100. As for the beaches, Ocean Beach with the pier has a good swimming area and lots of sand. Close by to both Hotel Circle and next door to Mission Bay.

Hotel Circle is distant from beaches and more of a good-freeway-access, convention-traveler type of place. Try Pacific Beach, La Jolla or Del Mar. I recently stayed at the Hotel La Jolla for $119/night for a beuatiful, large room with 2 queen beds. It has a heated pool and jacuzzi, excercise room, and hot cookies! Also, a free shuttle to take you to the beach and shopping (about 2 mi away). There are tons of restaurants and coffee houses in La Jolla, and an aquarium, but no nightlife to speak of. Have fun!
