This branch lives up to the expectations of all the Doubletree chain. You can accumulate Hilton points, get your fresh baked cookie at check in and have a comfortable stay.
The beds are comfortable, and if you have a western facing room, you should have a nice view over some of the adjacent buildings to the harbor.
I read some reviews saying that this hotel is not within walking distance of much, but I beg to differ. Maybe I have a different standard of distance than those posters, but you are ~6 blocks from the harbor, ~6 blocks from the Gas Light district and you are immediately in Little Italy. For what it not within walking distance can be reached from the public transit just a few blocks away.
Unique Quality: Breakfast buffet coupons may be included in your room rate so inquire during booking and/or check in.
Internet is included in the room rate. For those who don't have their own computer, there are two free public machines in the lobby.
There is a free shuttle to/from the airport which is about 5 minutes away.
I should say that the Radisson is not really near anything in walking distance. The Gaslamp District is a good walk in what might not seem to be friendly areas especially at night. It certainly is central if you don't mind getting in the car and driving. The service and rooms are certainly very good. There is a restaurant which is good and it's right next to I-5 for easy access to the freeway. It's a nice hotel but there are certainly many hotels closer to the convention center and Gaslamp District.
NOTE: This property is now the Doubletree San Diego Downtown.
Unique Quality: Central location; close to the airport, clean, good service
I arrived early morning and was picked up at the airport by the hotels shuttle service. I really enjoyed this hotel. It was nice and clean and I was able to get a room without the wait. The hotel was close to everything in downtown. It was walking distance to the Gaslamp district and I even walked to Petco Park to catch a Padres game.
The hotel was very easy to get to, right off of a freeway off ramp. As close as it may sound to the I-5, it's a fairly quiet area.
The parking garage is a VERY tight squeeze. Big cars may want to park across the street.
Now I booked this hotel off of Priceline.com and I got a standard room. BUT, when we arrived, they told me that the room was allready given out. They upgrading us to a suite for 50 dollars more. But what the hell, a 200.00 dollar suite for a total of 130.00 dollars, which is the price of a standard room.
We went from the 6th floor with a view of the pool, to the 21st floor on a coner, with a view of the bay, skyline, and Balboa Park.
One Problem was at the customer service desk where the person behind the counter was not the greatest. We wanted to get a courtesy van to the Gaslamp Quater. But after wating for about 5 minutes and having airline people push there way up, we decided to take the Trolley, which was only 5 blocks down from the hotel. We spent 2.50 for a ride on the Trolly, instead of a tip to courtesy van driver that was not to courteous.
Other then that, the stay at the hotel was not that bad. The breakfast buffet was good, cheap and the service in there was great.
We never made it to the pool because we got caught up in all of the things to do in San Diego.
Unique Quality: Good view above the 8th floor. Great service in the resturant, and very clean
Directions: The hotel is right off of I-5 exit on Front Street.
Very easy to get to.
