Courtyard San dDego Downtown

by Keeria

I am just wondering how far the San Diego Courtyard Downtown is from the cruise pier. Can we take a bus or a trolley from the pier to the Hotel?
Thank you very much for your help

The Courtyard's at 6th and Broadway, so that's about a 12 block walk to the water, and the cruise terminal is right there, at the end of Broadway.
If you walk one block north, to C Street, you can take the trolley (either line) over to the American Plaza station and cut it down to about a 2-3 block walk. You catch it on the north (westbound) side of C Street.

The Cruise Ship Terminal is on N. Harbor Drive up by B Street, not at the foot of Broadway.

This is not quite a mile from your hotel. You can take the 923 bus which runs on Broadway and 5th or 6th and will take you up there.

However, I would suggest contacting the Courtyard and ask if they have a free shuttle service. Even a taxi would be more convenient and not too expensive as you'll only be traveling a mile or so.

Thank you very much for your reply.I have been looking at various hotels near the Pier and to me, the Courtyard Downtown just looks the nicest at a reasonable rate.

Travel Tips for San Diego

Urban Trees

by Stephen-KarenConn

Along the harbor front you will find about 30 "urban trees," whimsical sculptrures in a wide variety of tree-like shapes and colors. These very interesting works of art, sponsored by the Port of San Diego, add a festive air to the waterfront and each is worth pausing for a moment to study. I have pictured a few of them here.

Go over to Coronado Island,...

by paulapes

Go over to Coronado Island, and the Coronado Hotel. We went to the Hotel to have dinner...wonderful food and the hotel property is right on the water...it's beautiful. I was told it is the spot where many movies have been made.

Disabled Accessible

by Yaqui

California is very disable accessible. You find this is most of restrooms, doors, entries and the sidewalks. And if you find some place that is not, reporting it is always welcome. We want to make our state accessibe for everyone to enjoy.

The park is very accessible to disable individuals, which is awesome. Nicely paved walkways that are wide enough to accommodate anyone in a wheelchair or motorized carts. There are two, maybe three parking spots at the top by the lighthouse. Much of the parking areas have lots of spots available. I always look for this because my mom is elderly now and needs to have the access to these to make her life less of a burden. So I can sympathize for those people who have been render disable. Lets make their life better.

Bum and Greyfriars Bobby

by Dabs

Outside the William Heath Davis House in the Gaslamp Quarter, there are two statues devoted to man's best friend. Greyfriars Bobby was there 1st, if you've been to Edinburgh you may recognize the statue, there is a similar one in Edinburgh memorializing the devoted Skye Terrier who maintained a vigil for 14 years at the burial site of his owner at Greyfriars Church. San Diego and Edinburgh are sister cities which is how the statue came to be in San Diego, installed in 1998.

The other canine statue is of a San Diego resident, a St. Bernard-spaniel mix named Bum who became the city's official town dog after arriving as a stowaway from San Francisco. The local children collected pennies for a proper funeral when he died at the age of 12 on Nov. 10, 1898.

Exhibit in Old Town Commercial Restaurant

by Pawtuxet

The Old Town conservers have tried to create an informative display within these reproduction buildings...and they have done an admirable job. I felt saddened by the fact that very few people visited these spaces, however. The more popular place was the bazaar and all the shopping. Far more activity and colorful things to look at....lots of lush plantings and pleasant spaces. Perhaps if there were costumed guides or activities centered in the historic buildings, the public might be more inspired to visit.
