  • Musty and Beautiful!

Stayed a week, very good service. Enjoyed it immensly!

Unique Quality: It was very musty, probably because it was old. However, it may have the best views in the San Diego metro area!

Nice view

by TripAdvisor Member july27th

Not bad for the price (purchased from Priceline), especially since we stayed at the main tower and had a nice view of the harbor. The room is old, the shower floor had some stain, so 1-2 night stay is decent. There is an $8 self-parking OVERNIGHT fee. Check out Cafe 222 in downtown San Diego for the best breakfast.

No complaints here

by TripAdvisor Member sactosally

Stayed here for three nights. Upon check-in I did request a tower room, however the hotel was booked (the abundant crowd in the lobby seemed to verify this). But since I got a good rate through Priceline, and arrived on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, I didn't complain. My room was on the second floor off the lobby. This is called the terrace and there are about 50 rooms. For clarification, there are three guest room locations - the tower, the three story building, and the terrace I'm describing. I didn't have a gorgeous ocean view, rather a view of the front cul de sac. No problem however, my room was quite modern, no noise from cars, and the bathroom was lovely. It had marble counters, dual sinks, bathtub/shower with excellent water pressure. Perhaps it's the other two guest room areas that have been cause for concern. Regarding parking: From the sounds of it, some reviewers did not realize the two-story parking garage across the street belongs to the Hyatt. The bottom level is taken up partially by the valet service, but considering the parking lot, the street parking, and the parking garage, there are plenty of spaces to go around. And yes, it's only for overnight parking that they charge $8. Overall, grounds were very nice, location is closest to Seaworld and the concierge was helpful regarding our trips and discounted tickets to Seaworld and the zoo. You definitely need a rental car here. Mission Valley is barely a five minute drive to plenty of shopping and dining options. Pretty satisfied, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Avoid this supposed 4 star hotel! :-(

by TripAdvisor Member Fluid164

This hotel is NOT 4 stars (as suggested by Priceline)!!! It has terrible phone lines, nearly no internet access (lobby terminal charges $5, then .40/minute), even the room key gave me problems requiring three trips to the front desk! While perhaps a snazzy hotel in the 70's, this hotel is long overdue for a remodel and updating. The only redeeming qualities are: the staff is very good, even apologetic for what they know is a poor hotel experience; the location is great for business or pleasure-right across the street from Sea World, near the beaches and 15 minutes from Downtown.

I thought this hotel was really great!!

by TripAdvisor Member JasonArizonaSurprise

Overall, I thought that this was a really good hotel. My family stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, and we really enjoyed it. The front desk was helpful, and the views were great!!! I would stay at this hotel again...

Rough around the edges but worthy

by TripAdvisor Member Otiswp

As compared to other Hyatt properties, I agree with previous reviews that the property is a little worn. The location and views however are wonderful.

The grounds were lush with a tropical setting and even though the weather was June Gloom in Southern CA, the pool was very busy.

I would stay again for the location, views, and easy access to other parts of the city.

Loved this hotel!

We couldn't understand some of the bad reviews that we have seen about this hotel. The staff was extremely helpful, the rooms were nice, and the view was amazing. I would definitley recommend this hotel to anyone!

Had a great time!

by TripAdvisor Member darialynne

We had a great time at this hotel, overall. We went to San Diego for the fourth of July weekend, and were able to upgrade to an oceanview room at a nominal fee (we booked our room off Priceline). This hotel had a great location for spending time at Mission Beach. We were able to rent bicycles from a vendor at the hotel and spent the days at the beach and shopping and riding around. The staff at this hotel was EXCELLENT! So helpful, cheerful and just absolutely made it worth it. The only complaint was the rooms are a little old, not the most lavish rooms I have ever been in. The housekeeping leaves a little to be desired, as there were a few things upon arrival that should have been cleaned by housekeeping. Other than that, we had a great time here!

'Zonies only

by A TripAdvisor Member

For loud families and tourists only. Pool packed with bodies. Spa with nine children and seven adults at once. Basic amenities in room. One shampoo. Cheap/broken hair dryer. Bad coffee. Front desk people are clueless. Placed us on third story above loud whirling industrial fans and garbage drop. Otherwise, great bay view.

We had a great 5 nights stay

by TripAdvisor Member psdabj

We stayed at this hotel from 7/11 to 7/16. We had a great room on the 11th floor facing Sea World, the kids loved seeing fireworks from our room everynight. During the day, we saw sea lions in the bay from our balcony. Every request was immediately handled and a follow up call was made to make sure we received what was requested. The employees were very friendly and helpfull. The pool is small. We only used it once and it was not very crowded. (coming from AZ, using the pool is not high on our list of things to do in San Diego) The location was great, close to all attractions and beach. You can watch the sunset from some benches right on the bay across the street. We had a great time and would recommend this hotel.
