An awesome view of the marina

The Marriott at the marina and convention center is an excellent place to stay if you have business at the convention center or any place else in the down town area. It is actually attached to the convention center and is less than a 10 minute walk from the Old Gas Lamp district.

With this hotel being so close to the Gas Lamp District you have many choices for dining in the evening and entertainment in the area should not be missed.

Unique Quality: There are three very good restaurants in the hotel and two or three bars.

Breakfast is not included but can be had down stairs in the restaurant for $18.00
Hi-speed internet will also cost you an extra $9.95 a day but includes free local and long distance phone calls so if you are making loads of calls in and around the United States then it is worth it.

Wow!

Have stayed here twice, this April (2007) and before that 10 years previously. Both times for various conferences. Both times I was very impressed with both the rooms and the common areas. The place is huge and very centrally located right on the waterfront.

First the rooms. Not real big, but roomy enough. But having a balcony you can go out on and look over the Bay & Coronado Island makes you feel like you have all the room in the world. And the full length sliding glass doors really brings the light in. This last time, I was near the top and could see past Coronado Island to the Pacific Ocean and some small islands. Wow! Was so nice, I didn't want to leave my room. Didn't one night, just ordered room service which is something I usually avoid.

The common areas are huge, but partitioned off so that you get a cozy feel. Spent time in the Irish Pub (NOT authentic) on the first floor and one of the restaurants on the ground floor. The Pub is good for a lunch away from the convention center and the ground floor restaurant had outstanding food and wine selection in a quiet, intimate setting. Would still recommend walking a few blocks east to the Gaslight District with their large selection of restaurants and bars.

Unique Quality: The view is superb and probably from most of the rooms given the unique design.
The location next to the Marina, convention center, and shopping is unmatched. Lots of water front areas to stroll around.

San Diego's First Twin towers!

This is the first "twin towers" of San Diego and everyone had some comment on it's shape. Looks like billowing sails, looks like a football, that type of thing, to me they looked like parentheses around the marina. In any case, the hotel has an interesting shape.

Again this is not a place I've stayed at, but can tell you that this hotel caters to those looking for luxury. The average price of $245.00-$290.00 is not necessarily what you'd have to pay if you're willing to search the Internet.

It is located next to the SD Convention Center and very convenient for those attending an event there. It is also situated in front of it's own private marina and the park at Seaport Village, so there are a few nice diversions just outside it's doors.

It seems that much of it's clientele are conventioneers so, eclectic. However, the most interesting time to stay at this hotel would be during ComiCon. During the week of this convention anyone from a famous movie star to Darth Vader can be seen wandering the halls and spilling out onto the streets.

Unique Quality: If the cost of this hotel is beyond your means, but you like to be surrounded by a lovely ambiance try out their restaurants and bars; DW's Irish Pub for a drink, lunch or dinner. Starbucks Coffee for breakfast or lunch. Molly's Restaurant & Bar only for dinner. Molly's offers complimentary 3 hour valet/self parking, which, in the maze of the location is one less headache. They offer a happy hour menu nightly.

The Yacht Club Restaurant & Bar is what I suggest trying out. Casual dining on the boardwalk along the marina, between the Convention Center and Seaport Village it is open for lunch--$5.00-$16.00,-- happy hour, dinner--$5.00-$21.00--and a late night happy hour after 10:00 p.m.

It is the outdoor patio that I especially like but there is indoor dining with the same views.

This is a smoke free hotel but they offer designated areas outside. At the Marina there are boats to rent as well as other water activities available.

Keep in mind that prices may have changed since this was written so make sure to check their website before deciding.

Stay right by Seaport Village

I think this was an exquisite hotel. The facilities were immaculate and I believe they have many amenities available, such as their fitness center inside the hotel.

Unique Quality: Great view of the oceanside and adjacent to Seaport Village. Seaport Village is practically in their "backyard!" Beautiful outdoor pool, with waitstaff who deliver your orders to your lounge chair.

Great view, Great location, Great hotel

This Marriott is right on the water's edge, adjacent to the Convention Center and steps from the Gaslamp Quarter. Location is superb. It has great views over the bay from its 25 floors.

Quality and service are excellent and consistent with the Marriott quality.

Unique Quality: DW's is an Irish Pub within the hotel that deserves a visit.

More about Marriott Marina San Diego

FELLOW TRAVELERS- BEWARE!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I found out all too late that the room -which I had booked A MONTH in advance- was not guaranteed. We had booked a room with 2 double beds, non-smoking. My husband suggested, that after receiving an email stating that the room wasn't available, to call and make sure we had reasonable accomodations. I was taken care of my a rude person, who when asked her name, responded that she didn't have one. She hung up on me. Ultimately, I got a room with two very uncomfortable beds, which was partnered with a bathroom so dirty I had to lay towels down. I knew the floors were filthy because my kids' feet turned black...to match the mold that was growing in the grout in the bath tub...and the pink and balck mold on the shower curtain which I noticed while my son was bathing the filth off of his feet.

Can't go for a swim, either. The pool, which is saltwater (eew) is situated next to a pond that smells like duck poo-poo...in a bad way. The pool itself is also filthy, nothing like those pictured on the Marriott website.

If you want a better place to stay, go up to Laguna and stay at the Marriott there. It was immaculant, trendy and the service there is unsurpassed.

E-mail me with questions. Fellow travelers, BEWARE!!! You will lose your dinner over this place! And your hard-earned cash.

Anahiem to San Diego - Grand Tour

by MinnieMo

I am planning to join a day trip called Grand TOur of San Diego. But i'll be staying in Anahiem. How do i get to San Diego before 8.45 am? The trip starts at 9.00 am. Or is there any other tour which is similar to the grand tour, which starts from Anahiem?

RE: Anahiem to San Diego - Grand Tour

To be in San Diego by 8:45am you'd have to start about two to three hours ealier because of traffic or check out the Coaster/Amtrak--the train==take one that will arrive at the time you'd like.

You might also check with your hotel in Anaheim to see if there is a tour of San Diego offered directly from Anaheim.

Rather than taking this Grand Tour, take the Old Town Trolley Tour instead (http://www.oldtowntrolley.com/). It is more flexible. You can start the tour at your convenience. Give yourself time to complete it, however. You can get off the tour bus to explore an attraction then catch the next bus to continue your tour.

If you are not driving, Amtrak is a good option for going to San Diego from Anaheim. They are fairly reliable, but you may be unlucky and your train may be delayed. If you are bent on taking this Grand Tour, however, consider going to San Diego the day before and staying there overnight. You'll surely catch the tour's start the following morning.

Thanks for the advices. Looks like we got to take the option of going to San Diego a day before.

What about the trolly tour? Is it good? Any shopping tour around?

The Old Town Trolley Tours offers stops at, Old Town State Park, Cruise Ship Terminal, Seaport Village,Marriott Marina/Convention Center, Horton Plaza/Gaslamp Quarter, Coronado (Mc P?s Orange Ave), San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park (El Prado.) Of these places there is shopping at Hoton Plaza, a good shopping mall, in the Gaslamp Quarter, some specialized shops, on Orange Avenue in Coronado, some clothes, antiques and art and at Seaport Village, speciality shops, Art gallery and mainly touist oriented.

You can also take the San Diego Trolley from Old Town to Fashion Valley which is a very popular shopping mall. If shopping is your thing, I'd suggest this mall too.
