Parking Around the Omni Hotel

by determinetraveler

I will be staying at the Omni Hotel. Their parking prices are 32 dollar per 24 hour period. I need to know if there is parking within walking distance for less than 32 per day where I can check in and out the car as needed. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Re: Parking Around the Omni Hotel

Sorry to say that parking in this area is not readily available. You'll find metered parking on the streets, but not much in the way of parking lots to store your car for long periods of time or overnight. I think there is a parking structure across Harbor Boulevard from the Omni, not "too" far from where you'll be, but don't know their rates.

If you must use a car--I mean if you plan to venture further than the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village--you might either consider renting only for the day, each time you go out or check into the idea of parking your car at one of the SD Trolley parking lots where there is no charge for parking. I don't know what the limits are regarding overnight parking, but there is a SD Trolley station near the Omni so you might park your car at another Station that has a big lot, then take the SD Trolley to your hotel.

Travel Tips for San Diego

San Diego Business Site

by localsd

There are quite a few sites that list business events in San Diego. The better events are put on by organizations like bizSanDiego, Connect, SDVG, bioCom and others. I would recommend visiting http://www.bizsandiego.com/calendar. They have a very good listing of business events and fun events. They also send out a daily newsletter that list events for the next day. You can sign up for that on their homepafe: http://www.bizsandiego.com

Hope this helps!

My favorite city never disappoints

by CDNgirl

watch the sun set at Cabrillo National Monument. It's on a hill with a clear view of the ocean, and is high enough to generally miss the fog that tends to roll in at twilight. The Zoo, the weather, the ocean, Coronado, the lighthouse, the shopping, Balboa Park, the smell, the greenness of everything!

Check out the plaques

by Yaqui

If you have noticed that along the walking path from the Point Loma Lighthouse to the Whale watching overlook, you’ll see many wonderful species of local plants. The park took the time to mark many of the significant plants with plaques. Take the time to read the placards and learn about them. San Diego has so many wonderful plants that only grow in this area.

University Heights!

by lmkluque

Moving west on Adams Avenue, leads us to University Heights. There is a crude pile of rocks, serving as sign post. On the plaque an Ostrich reminds us that in the early 1900's this was an ostrich farm.

In 1991 Trolley Park was dedicated as an Historic Landmark. Site of the Adams Avenue Trolley Carbarn which is at Adams, just before Park Boulevard. I have to admit, I've never seen a trolley there, but my grandchildren love to play there.

Make a left on Park Boulevard to the "commercial" section of the neighborhood. The history of this area is being honored by renovations to the exterior and interior of these buildings as well as newer buildings going up. It's all looking pretty nice. There are lots of Craftman bungalows and apartments in this neighborhood.

First I'll mention the Buddhist Temple that is located here, as well as Buddah's Light Bookstore and that should help with your first impression. Vegetarian Cafes, Persian rug stores, art galleries are all part of the package. However, as with most neighborhoods of San Diego, you'll find many ethnic restaurants to choose from including Korean, Italian and American bar & grills. Coffeeshops and Tea rooms abound.

University Heights seems not so active as Normal Heights and Kensington but it has its charm and the community is working to upgrade itself.

Visit Coronado Island

by Srechko

Coronado Island is another attractive place to visit. It is located an a peninsula between the San Diego Bay and the ccean, it can be accessed via the San Diego - Coronado Bay Bridge. There is a small charge to cross the bridge. Hotel del Coronado is very attractive looking and it has a nice beach. They also have a big pool (photo), but they did not let me use it. It was already full of people anyway.
