The first time I saw the Ocean Beach Motel, it was painted pink and looked a bit shabby, but still it was the place I would have chosen to stay if I hadn't lived so near. Since then, the family owned and operated motel has been revitalized and given a promotion in status from motel to hotel.
Based on price and location, this is the hotel I'd stay at in San Diego if I wanted to be near the Pacific Ocean.
$79.00 to $119.00 per night is the most unique quality of this hotel, considering it's location. Any farther west and it would be on the sand and probably washed away like the Amusement park built up where Dog Beach is now! The corner of Abbot Street and Newport Avenue is the starting point for all the action in Ocean Beach. The beach is west, pier is just south, shopping, restaurants and bars are east and to the north is more restaurants, shopping a park and Dog Beach.
The rooms seem to be organized to allow either a courtyard view or an ocean view. Parking is free and in this community that is a real convenience, especially since everything is within walking distance--even for me.
