Listen to the ocean as you fall asleep

I used to travel to San Diego almost weekly for work and after getting sick of the chain hotels near the office my co-worker and I started staying at the Ocean Park Inn in PB. It wasn't fancy, but the rooms were decent - made better by the fact that you could leave your window open and let the ocean lull you to sleep. However, that was several years ago, so I have no idea if it has been kept up / remodeled or what.

There were a few restaurants and a couple bars close by, on or near the beach, and I remember a great breakfast sandwich at a shop just north of the hotel.

More about Ocean Park Inn

Loved Ocean Park Inn

by TripAdvisor Member SherryLynn1961

We recently spent 4 days at OPI and loved the location! The ocean front room on second or third floor is the only way to go. You go to sleep and wake up to the sound of waves hitting the beach. The continental breakfast was superb! Way more than we expected. The room was clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed at the Best Western Blue Sea Lodge a couple of years ago and fell in love with the area. The boardwalk is the best. We will definitely stay again at OPI. The underground parking was nice. We felt totally secure.

Best Ever

The Ocean Park Inn made my trip the best I have ever taken, The staff were more than helpful, friendly, informative, just all around great, from the office, maid service and even the maintenance guy when my battery went dead. great secure parking, never had to worry about my car, which by the way, l never had to use, since inn located within walking distance of anything l could want. Plan to return many times.

Can't wait to go return to Pacific Beach!

Ocean Park Inn was an awesome family hotel. I traveled there from the Northeast during the April school vacation and stayed two nights, two adults, two children (11 & 8). We booked a very inexpensive internet rate and wow! We were upgraded to the largest room on the third floor, ocean view, no kidding! We did not have to pay for the upgrade. I do have to mention that we also stayed two nights at the Best Western Blue Sea Lodge, again, inexpensive internet rate, and they upgraded us to a suite. I have no idea why. It was hospitality at its best from both properties. I don't understand why the Best Western has a better diamond or star rating from some sources than the OPI. I liked the OPI a bit better because it seemed a little more modern on the inside, do not let the outside deceive you. What a great location. The pool is better at the Best Western, but OPI pool is not bad. The OPI pool does not have a deep end, parents with small children may like this. I think the deepest is 4.5 feet, but confirm with the hotel. All of the good comments on this site are accurate. There were absolutely NO bugs and it was very clean and roomy. Perhaps bugs are a seasonal problem everywhere near the beach? Staff were excellent. Its a great choice, especially if you can book it at a cheap rate, shop the internet. If you are traveling with a family, book on Pacific Beach. Take a ride through La Jolla and Coronado Island, amazing beauty. Why would you want to stay next to the highway in the hotel circle hotels? So much to do.....can't wait to return.......and shop your airfares directly on the airline's web sites, you will be pleasantly surprised. This entire trip was less $$$ for me than traveling to Florida and we traveled for a few days to Disneyland! New Englanders, this is a great alternative to Orlando! Happy traveling!

Excellent Hotel

My husband and I spent three nights at OPI and loved the place!! We were originally put in a room on the 1st floor, but were able to move to the third floor a few hours later. The 2nd and 3rd floors provide an amazing view of the ocean! Everyone at the hotel was incredibly friendly and helpful (especially Eric at the front desk). Expedia actually made three reservations for us instead of just one, but the hotel worked out the error on their end and we were not troubled by it at all.
The free secure parking was a nice bonus, it definately allowed us to not worry about the rental when we were not using it. The local police patrol the boardwalk in the evenings, which we found reassuring. I would recommend Taylors restaurant just across the street, their upper level deck provides a great view of the sunset.
The pool and spa were very clean and well maintained. The pool is kept at a warm temperature, making a swim in the evening very enjoyable. The only negative thing that happened was one night when we had a couple of kooks with guitars goofing off on the boardwalk and singing the 12 days of christmas - but the sound of the ocean basically drowned them out. The lot on the south end of the hotel is under construction. We were right on the corner next to it, but were already up by 7 when they started working. If you hope to sleep later I would recommend requesting a room on the north end for the next few months. We had a wonderful time in San Diego thanks to the Ocean Park Inn; I wouldn't even consider staying at another hotel on our next visit!

Loved it!!

Stayed here for two nights but wish it was longer. What a wonderful little hotel! The location is fantastic-right on the beach. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. We had an extra person than we had originally planned for and they happily moved us to a room with a sleeper sofa. They also easily answered every question we had about where to go for things. Breakfast is good as far as continental breakfasts go. I must say however, that Kono's up the boardwalk is the bomb! An upper floor room is a must. That way you can safely leave your window open at night and listen to the ocean. There are homeless people around but, they keep to themselves for the most part. Underground, secure parking is also a big plus as we loaded up at IKEA and didn't want to haul everything in at night. I'll never stay anywhere else in San Diego!

Great location, great hotel!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We booked 3 nights at Ocean Park off the internet without ever seeing the hotel or being in the Pacific Beach area, and we were absolutely thrilled when we arrived at the property! Our oceanfront room was perfect - we had great views of the ocean, boardwalk and the pool, and the room had every amenity needed. The staff was upbeat, extremely helpful, and very polite. And the location was the best - very close to restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and the beach!!! We will definitely be recommending the hotel to all of our friends who plan to travel to San Diego in the future.

Great Surprise - Loved it !!

two super evenings spent in a well located, professionally run hotel. Clean and neat with wonderful personnel that make the place work. Pacific Beach is well located to hit all the sites around San Diego without the prices of downtown San Diego. Would recommend highly to everyone and will return.

overcharged

by A TripAdvisor Member

I had made a reservation at this hotel for the next day, then my plans changed, so when I called to cancel the reservation, I was told that I would be charged for 1 nite as I did not give 24 hours notice. I explained that I had only booked less than 12 hours earlier, so I could not have give the required notice. The lady at the reservations was very short with myself and my husband. They did indeed charge my credit card for the room. Did not leave a very good inpression on my family. I do intend to pass this along to my friends that operated a travel agency.

loved the OPI

by A TripAdvisor Member

Location is the keay with this place The OPI is a great place to stay in San Diego.Other than being a little hard to find due to the construction in front of the hotel (Which was blocking the hotel sign ),We had no problems getting there from LA.It was so wonderful to be right on the beach. Everything you need is there.Drug store ,7-11,grocery store ,shopping, restaurants, etc. Eat breakfast at Kono's by the pier(Awsome). The hotel also has a great cont. breakfast,And an all day juice bar.The pool area is quite small, but the pool was nice and warm, and the hot tub had the most powerful jets that i have ever felt. Great for the feet after a day of walking. The front desk staff were very friendly & helpful with anything we needed.
