Inauguration Activities

by Beljanewood

I am staying in the Gaslamp District during the week of the inauguration. Anybody know of any celebrations, parties, etc. closeby that would welcome 2 Virginia Democrats?

Thanks,
Belinda

No parties of note, but check out Croche's for some great music

Hi Belinda,

There are two events I know about, the Inaugurual Ball at the SD Hilton, Bay Front Hotel and an Inaugural Wine Tasting at Bacchus Wine Market.

There may be more and if interested you can look at the Introduction to my San Diego page where I have placed links to three of the local papers for SD. Each may offer something more.

Travel Tips for San Diego

Hit the beach! Go body...

by San_Diego

Hit the beach! Go body boarding, surfing, snorkeling, and best yet, go sailing. Sailing to the Coronados and seeing lots of birds, fish, porpoises and whales....same time every year from January to March

See Balboa Park especially on...

by webber

See Balboa Park especially on a Sunday afternoon. Also take a ferry across the bay to Coronado Island. Make time to visit the zoo. It is world famous and once there you'll know why. Go to the ocean...buy a sandwich at a deli and have a picnic watching the waves. Ocean Beach has many antique and collectible shops if you like that and or go to the Pacific Beach area....lots of clubs to party in and lots of great food (like World Curry) with very reasonable prices.

Oceanside

by vigi

We drive back down along highway 5 towards San Diego downtown, passing by Oceanside and decided to have a look, I read something about this place on VT before. Well... nothing much here actually, just some boat parking, restaurants and resorts. Just a quick drive through and took a few pictures.

Kite Surfing

by travelgirl3

Along with the regular surfers, we caught up with several kite surfers on our trip to Imperial Beach.

These guys & girls are true thrillseekers, as with a good wave and strong wind, they would get pulled up, way out of the water. It was awesome to watch them!

What languages do they speak at home?

by matcrazy1

It seems that many of San Diegans speak Spanish at home. How many? I don't know.

Reffering to official dates:
33% of San Diego County population (above 5yo) use other (than English) language at home. But the average for California is higher - 39.5%.

From Chris (balfor):
There are MANY people in the United States who do not speak
english. It is typically just the first generation of immigrants who do not
speak english though. One thing with spanish speaker that you will find true
throughout the U.S. is if you need landscaping or construction/roofing done,
there will be a large portion of the work force who speaks little or no english.
However they are working VERY hard to make enough money to bring their family to
the U.S. :-) Many of the crews you find like this will have 1-2 people who speak
english and no-one else does, so if you need to talk to someone about the job
they are doing, you need to find the right person.
Thank you Chris.
