Avoid San Diego during these dates ....
by iris2002
Hi
As in every major city there are lots of big business conferences.
In San Diego one of the biggest one is the IT Convention happening in late March.
Hotels, flights and rental cars will be heavily booked.
Just thought I let you know !
Also try to avoid the Convention centre area as security and traffic will be on an increase during the event.
For the business heads it's an opportunity however to network... so not all bad ehy :) Shamu and the San Diego Rescue Centre for Dolphins and Seals and other sea animals... you could check if you can help out for a day... LOTS OF fun but very fishy (the smell I mean)
I would take my partner to...

I would take my partner to Hometown Buffet because it has all the food you want and it has it's own dessert bar. Also if it's your birthday the workers sing happy birthday to you. I luv that place The best memory was when it was my birhtday and i went to the beach with my family and we went far into the the ocean and glided on the waves.

On the way back to the car, we saw a wedding taking place. This is the moment where the daughter walks down the aisle with her father. Everyone is turned around to see how beautiful she looks...and her husband-to-be is waiting for her to join him. Ahhh...love! :-)
The first quarter
by venteeocho
The first quarter released in 2005 honors California, and is the 31st in the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters® Program. California was admitted into the Union on September 9, 1850, becoming our Nation’s 31st State. Nicknamed the "Golden State," California’s quarter depicts naturalist and conservationist John Muir admiring Yosemite Valley’s monolithic granite headwall known as "Half Dome" and also contains a soaring California condor. The coin bears the inscriptions "California," "John Muir," "Yosemite Valley" and "1850."
In 1849, the year before California gained statehood, the family of 11-year-old John Muir emigrated from Scotland to the United States, settling in Wisconsin. In 1868, at the age of 30, Muir sailed up the West Coast and landed in San Francisco. He made his home in the Yosemite Valley, describing the Sierra Nevada Mountains as "the Range of Light… the most divinely beautiful of all the mountain chains I have seen." He devoted the rest of his life to the conservation of natural beauty, publishing more than 300 articles and 10 books that expanded his naturalist philosophy.
The 20-member California State Quarter Commission was formed to solicit design concepts from California citizens and to review all submissions. The Commission forwarded 20 design concepts to Governor Gray Davis’s office for further consideration. From these, five were chosen as finalists and sent for final review to the United States Mint. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger chose the final selection from this group of five. The four other design concepts considered included "Waves and Sun," "Gold Miner," "Golden Gate Bridge," and the "Giant Sequoia" design. The Department of Treasury approved the "John Muir/Yosemite Valley" design on April 15, 2004.
They drive alone
by matcrazy1
Most drivers drive alone in their cars. Does it mean that each person has/use its own car?
Hmmm... they support driving with at least 2 persons (including a driver) inside a car - they built special lane (or even 2 lanes) on I-5 called "carpool" on a freeway just for such cars. But sometimes my car was the only one on this lane.
From Chris (balfor):
Americans like their independence and that is reflected in our commuting habits as well. We don't want to carpool to work because we might want to go somewhere else after work. We won't 95% of the time, but we MIGHT want to.
And yes, typically if you have 2 adults in a house (husband and wife) then there will be at least 2 cars. Perhaps even 3 or 4 vehicles. (for example - you both have a car to commute to work, you have a pickup truck for any projects or work that you might need and a convertible for the weekends in the summer. 4 cars for 2 people. Quite a lot different than in Europe.) Oh, and you will frequently find the carpool lanes are also called HOV lanes (for high occupancy vehicles) and are reserved for vehicles like busses, carpools (even if it's only 2 people), cars with alternate fuels like natural gas and motorcycles.
Thank you Chris.
