budget Hotels

by wmjunejo

I want to visit San Diego with my family of 4 adults in July 2009.

Will really appreciate guidance on best value / budget accomodations meeting the following needs :

1. Price US $ 100. - 150
2. Location : Heart of City. Lively place outside hotel
3. Easy availability of public transport ( 5-10 minutes walk from hotel)
4. 5. Do not care about the view

Will be thankful for guiding us to stay at a perecft location.

try the gas lamp plaza suites. It's right in the heart of the gaslamp district which is the regentrified downtown area. Lot of bars, restaurants and shops there. It's also one block from the trolley stop. Lastly, they have timeshare type rooms which sleep 4 adults comfortably and have a kitchette.

Thanks.

Looks nice both in terms of price as well as location.

Thanks again and best regards

Travel Tips for San Diego

Nightlife

by pianomany2k

The gaslamp district is a great place where you can stroll by many great restaurants and bars within a small area. Consider getting accomodations within a reasonably short driving distance away. I live out of the central area so I must always find a "designated driver" because public transport can be too expensive (taxi) or non existant (buses) late at night. Whenever I am away from San Diego I realize how lucky we are to have such nice weather. Don't forget to visit the best Zoo in the world...it is always my visiting friends favorite daytime place.

Historic missions of San Diego

by Pawtuxet

There are a number of missions scattered around San Diego. I wish I could take a guided tour of all of them. The architecture is old Mexican stucco with arches and the grounds are beautiful and tranquil. Try to slip in to at least one while you are on your visit. Hopefully they will always be preserved.

Residential areas

by matcrazy1

Go/walk/drive outside a downtown and other tourist points of interest to see huge residential areas mixed with many business areas. Look at architecture of their houses, yards full of flowers, palm trees, various (exotic for me) trees, bushes, fruits etc.

Surfers, Swimmers and Bodyboarders

by DesertDarlene

San Diego beaches are becoming more and more crowded and there is more competition for good waves between surfers and body boarders as well as swimmers. There have been fights with injuries due to this competition.

Some areas of the water are specifically set aside for surfers, swimmers, and body borders. But, in case there's no specific area, observe the people who are out in the water. Are there mostly swimmers? Are there a lot of surfers in one area or body boarders in another? Also, ask a lifegaurd where the best area to swim or surf is. This will save on some unneeded aggravation.

Tasting in front of a restaurant

by matcrazy1

I saw it only once in Gaslamp Quarter - a man inviting people to a restaurant, he just stand on a walkway with some food to taste.

Is it the way for free eating? = low budget travel. I don't think so. Although I saw one local bum who tried it, succesfully :-).
