Hostel in The Gaslamp!

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 6, 2005

There are three room choices, 6 bed dorm, 4 bed dorm and private room, which costs twice that of a dorm. They offer mixed dorms and female-only dorms so the boys will have to go for a private room if they are shy.

I haven't stayed here but have passed by it and it seems to be like most other hostels. The building has been recently renovated so it should be pretty nice inside.

The location of this Hostel is a big plus because Fifth Avenue is right in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter which is the hottest spot, day and night in the downtown area.

Update:

A couple of people I know stayed here and were quite happy with everything in general. One said that the breakfast wasn't that great but the other liked it quite well. The biggest advantages here are the price of a bed and the Location if you like to be in the midst of the hippest vibe in town.

Unique Quality: Affordable room rates, all the freebies and discounts given, make this a great place for someone on a tight budget.

They offer a few package deals, like the Zoo Package or Whale Watching. Check out the Calendar of Events to see about Taco Tuesday or the Tijuana Tour, a Bike Tour and of all things, the "Pub Crawl - FREE Hostel Activity!"

Now if that doesn't give you a clue I don't know what will.

Perfect Choice

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 23, 2004

Perfectly located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, close to many bars and restaurants and shops. Great hostel atmosphere, nice people and comfortable beds (6 beds in dorm).
Beautifully painted bathrooms, great common rooms, big kitchen, events and excursions (pub crawl, parties etc.), free breakfast.

Unique Quality: In the morning hostel staff leave big pots of pancake and waffle dough in the kitchen so you can make your own breakfast. It's fun to watch others (=guys...) how they make a big mess with their waffles while you eating your pancakes yourself ;-)

Great parties at night with free shots for everybody or free drinks for the ladies - great to meet people.

Really liked my stay here!
