Support the street musicians
Like most big cities, San Francisco has it's share of street musicians. Stop, listen, and give the guy a dollar. We take this for granted, but it's things like this that make a city more enjoyable for everyone.

Hi ~ I'm wondering which is the best shuttle service *door to door* from SF airport to North Beach area. I'm looking at BAY SHUTTLE SERVICE. Would there be a reason not to use them? Thank you !
Most of the shuttles are pretty good. Can't say about Bay in recent history (5 years) but North Beach is easily accessible by BART and either Muni or taxi.
just take bart to montgomery station then take a cab to north beach. it will take a lot less time. if you want to get really adventurous, you could take bart to montgomery station, then walk to the stokton tunnel to catch the 30 or the 45 to north beach. just ask the driver to tell you when you're at columbus and union and you will be right smack dab in the middle of it all.

here's the genaral area you will need to know. see the 2nd blue bar on market st. just left of the water? that's montgomery station. now follow kearny st. and you will be taking a left up to stockton then about a block right up stockton, you will see the tunnel. just ask a local store owner. they should know if you get confused.
on second thought, if you're not feeling like wasting that time, just bart in and take a cab.
The best is GO Lorries. You can make advanced reservations over the internet & they're very reliable.

And you can arrange pick-ups & rides from the airport of your destination.

I suppose every big city has its share of unique neighbourhoods, but SF seems to excel at it. We spent time in the Haight (I still remember the Haight Ashbury hippy era of the mid 1960's), the Castro, Noe Valley, at the top of Pacific Heights, Chinatown, North Beach (which is no longer a beach at all), SOMA (South of Market St), and the other tourist areas - Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Embarcadero, etc.
Ride those famous cable cars. This is a great way to see all of the fantastic Victorian architecture and you can also avoid having to walk up some of those terribly steep hills! Food, glorious food! The options of where to eat are endless when you are in SF - chocolate-covered strawberries, clam chowder soup, Thai delicacies, and Indian pizza (Go Zante's pizza!). While you are walking the streets of this city and see a restaurant that looks interesting (there are plenty) - try it out! I think that this is one of the most exciting things to do in SF.
My favorite place is Golden Gate Park. It is absolutely the prettiest part of San Francisco with a large assortment of things to see and do. I have so many wonderful memories of San Francisco from when I lived there for 3 years and then all of my visits back each year. The city is so unique and so much to see and do. It would be hard for me to select just one favorite memory.
