 | | | | York Hotel: Excellent location, rooms & entertainment!! Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The York Hotel is a charming, comfortable place located on Nob Hill, a short walk from Union Square. The rooms are lovely, & the service is very good. They will make restaurant reservations and get theatre tickets, etc. I haven't stayed at the York , but a friend of mine did and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been to the York several times & like the comfortable ambiance - small and nicely elegant. Also, you can catch a show in the Empire Plush Room, a cabaret-style showroom and bar. | | | | Hyatt Regency San Francisco: Hotel High Anxiety Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I like very much and in the past have stayed at both the Westin St. Francis and the York hotels, but I always seem to end up staying here at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. It seems the more you stay here the better they treat you. Some people don't like this place for the huge interior lobby, the high rack rates, and the retro "forbidden planet" elevators, but I always end up staying here and am always happy with it. I like some of Mel Brooks' movies, and I remember cracking up the first time I checked in at Hyatt Regency 5 Embarcadero when I realized this is where the "High Anxiety" hotel interiors were shot.
The location in Financial District / Embarcadero center is excellent. Right on the "triangle" of Drumm, California, and Market. The California cable car line up to Nob Hill, the Ferry building, cabstands, BART, and the MUNI are all right outside the front door. Financial district, North Beach, Chinatown, Embarcadero, SOMA, all within short walking distance. Excellent views from the revolving restaurant (Equinox now closed) on the top/18th floor - a great place to have a late drink while the bay bridge and the rest of downtown SF go revolving by your table every 1/2 hour or so. They have rate specials all the time, check the website or call 'em once in a while and ask. | | | | Cartwright Hotel On Union Square: Breakfast, Wine receptions and great service Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I do not usually stay at fancy hotels when I travel. I usually search for a bed and breakfast or an inexpensive but comfortable hotel that will not go over my budget. But sometimes you just need to pamper yourself a little and The Cartwright Hotel is a good place to do this. The Hotel offers a complimentary breakfast each morning. The staff is courteous and very friendly making you feel right at home. The rooms are large and spotless. Nothing is left out for your comfort and relaxation. The hotel is centrally located on Sutter Street just off of Powell Street at Union Square.
Every morning there is a complimentary breakfast. This is not just the usual bagel, juice and danish. There is a full breakfast bar with waffles, cereal, bagels, danish, yogurt, and fruit. A coffee bar is open 24 hours for your use in the breakfast area. You can make yourself a cup of coffee or tea anytime you would like. Each afternoon the hotel hosts a fresh baked cookie social in the lobby. And each evening at between 5 and 6 o'clock there is complimentary wine served in the lobby. This allows for time to meet other guests, to relax, and finish off a busy afternoon. | | | | Grosvenor Suites: Grosvenor Suites San Franjcisco: On top of the Nob Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I?m very honored you asked! By looking at your VT page and the fact that you know I?m a maniac then this is what I suggest for you. It?s not so much the price but the location in San Francisco. Downtown is: Chinatown, Union Square, Financial District however the hotels are having pricing wars so you can get great deals in this area. The places in town that are hip local and the ?City? are: The Haight, Noe Valley, Maria (however I?m not that hot it, it?s a bit yuppie), The Castro if you gay. Nob Hill for the stunning prettiness of it. Fisherman?s Warf is NOT San Francisco. We never ever go down there. It?s weird, and it?s 100% tourists and not fun. I mean you HAVE to go to Alcatraz (book at least one month in advance) but that?s it. Here are my recommended hotels on a tight budget: (This is my new travel web site by the way) Downtown: Hotel Astoria, cute old-time hotel looks arruond $50 a night, but check the price and hotel: http://www.res99.com/hotel/10007580-10191560B.html?ses=a59f0ca2ff5a3f4a95acfeb1bc88682889063 Nob Hill: Grosvonor Hotel, About $96 a night. http://www.res99.com/hotel/10007580-10216215O.html?ses=a59f0ca2ff5a3f4a95acfeb1bc88682889063

 | | | | Hotel Boheme: Small trendy North Beach Hotel Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Small, pseudo-hip, excellent North Beach location, not too expensive. (approx. $175/night with tax). A fave of writers, artists, eccentrics etc. and the staff (thanks Charles) is patient & helpful. I would recommend it for a unique & offbeat romantic North Beach getaway. Good for at least one stay if you like North Beach. I stayed 3 nights and liked it, but then I'm a North Beach freak.
Cool building, starts on the 2nd floor as it sits above a good pastry shop. But for me it's all about location close to all my favorite restaurants, bars, and hangouts. Good points / advantages: location; intimate, almost romantic ambience; tastefully furnished with many beat-era photographs in rooms, halls & stairs; free wireless. The staff is smart, hip, helpful but not overtly nosy. Caution: rooms are small with minimal electrical outlets (not for business "gadget freaks"); NO PARKING - you must park a couple blocks away in expensive lots that take cash only. Definitely not "car-friendly." I recommend you park over by Powell and Green St. at Allen Coe's lot next to O'Reilly's. Allen is a cool dude and will give you the best parking price in North Beach. Some colorful guests as well (including me). NO STAFF on duty after ~ midnight. If you need assistance late at night (lockouts, etc) you have to find a phone, call, & wait (good luck if you're naked ). I recommend "comfort room" 201 on top floor corner with window overlooking Columbus Ave. Can be a little noisy when Columbus is hoppin' but there are also quieter rooms that don't face the street if you're a light sleeper.
