 | | | | W Hotel San Francisco: MODERN Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Set in the heart of downtown San Francisco's "South of Market," W San Francisco stands out with the offbeat, yet sophisticated spirit of the city it calls home. Literally stands out. On the Third Street Frieze of W San Francisco, towering 46 feet above street level, is a fantastic reclining figure made of irregularly sheared bronze strips woven together. Conceived by a local artist to complement to the neo-classical design of W San Francisco, the figure (with one arm draped casually over the edge of the podium) also reflects W's whimsical reinvention of public and private space. Experience it for yourself.
Located at Third Street and Howard, W San Francisco is adjacent to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and directly across from the Moscone Center. In an important part of the new development area called "Yerba Buena Gardens," we are five blocks from Union Square and just steps from an eclectic array of boutiques, theaters and galleries. The Metreon, a new high-tech Sony entertainment center that includes a multi-screen theater, is just one block away. | | | | Hotel Astoria San Francisco: Great deal for SF Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I got a room at this place for the stunning price of $35 a night off orbitz.com!!!!!!!!!!! It's well located-right near the entrance to Chinatown and then north is North Beach/Telegraph Hill, close to Union Square, Civic Center, loads of restaurants within walking distance. Nice chinese people run this hotel. It seems to be popular with overseas visitors from Asia for obvious reasons. It's a basic place - clean, good bed, TV works fine, plenty of room. I had to share the bathroom right outside the door with one other guest which was never a problem. Why pay an extra 30 bucks just for a private bathroom when you can have a well kept clean bathroom share? You share the bathroom with your housemates/ roommates dont you?

 | | | | Hostelling International- San Francisco/ Downtown: International Youth Hostel - Union Square | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Good base in central San Francisco, very close to Union Square, and Powell Street and not too close to Tenderloin. Other central IYH hostel was in a much dodgier area a couple of blocks away. I had a private room, with bunk beds, sink, locker and chair, and two windows looking into air shafts. Shared shower / toilet facilities in hallway. Only about $35 per night with $3 reduction for Hostel Association members. Family, en suite, and dorm rooms also available at different rates.
Fairly plainly decorated, and large kitchen only equipped with fridge, toaster and microwave, but plenty of restaurant options around. Offered range of activities, including day trips to Yosemite, or Wine Tasting in Napa, or free walking tours around the city. | | | | Prescott Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel: Great boutique hotel Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I stayed at the Prescott Hotel for 3 nights and really enjoyed the hotel. Its location couldn't be better, just two blocks from Union Square. Rooms are large, with king size beds, a sitting area and very nicely decorated, with marble bathrooms and good Aveda toiletries. Cable tv offers many channels. The service was also good though not outstanding. In the afternoons they serve wine in the lounge, where there is a nice fireplace and it's a wonderful place to relax after a busy day shopping or visiting the city. There is no breakfast room but you can order breakfast to your room. There aren't many choices though and it's a bit on the expensive side. They have a restaurant though , the Postrio, where you can have your meals. I had lunch there once and it was very good. If you are driving, they have valet parking, so , you don't have to worry about it.
