    King George Hotel - Union

The King George Hotel was a very quaint and charming hotel dating back to 1918. The rooms were small and the atmosphere reminded me of a B&B. The room is appropriate for a weekend trip away for two. I stayed at the hotel on a business trip, sharing the room with a co-worker. The rooms are not conducive for business travel. They do have high-speed internet, but there is only one electrical outlet in the entire room and it does not accept a 3-prong computer extension. There is no room service or restaurant in the hotel. There is a nice bar area, which I believe serves lunch and dinner. They hotel also serves continental breakfast.

Britton Hotel: Nice price from hotwire   Compare Rates NEW!

  • I got this hotel several times just by sheer luck I guess, off hotwire.com for about $45 a night!!!! This was in the "off season" for tourism however. The rooms are rather chamingly decorated and very welcoming. A bit small but SF hotel rooms seem to be small frequently. I liked the pizza joint by the lobby and they had free beer and wine from 5p-7p which made it even a greater deal. A beer at a Holiday Inn is about $5.00 (rip off) The neighborhood is near the civic center; a little dodgy with lots of panhandling. Don't go for a midnight stroll around here. There are plenty of taxi's available.

Charming rooms, great pizza cafe in lobby with free beer and wine in the evenings. Very friendly staff, is adjacent to a Best Western. no breakfast but a short walk to a bagel and coffee shop with very good bagels.

$89 a night gets you something wild! Ok folks this hotel is totally out of the ordinary. It’s laid out like an old 50’s motel, but all funky and cheesy in a good way. It’s in a busy area of San Francisco, but once you walk into the courtyard you here the piped in jungle noises. It also has a wacky pool (it’s always too cold in this city FYI to swim unless you totally liquored up). The hotel has a very popular night club called BACKFLIP. It’s often frequented by the “stars”. I went there once with the band Everclear. The rooms are decorated in a offhanded tiki sort of way. Each spacious 50's style bungalow room is decorated with handmade bamboo furnishings, tropical plants. All guestrooms have views of the courtyard and pool.

The fun and funky island- inspired Phoenix Hotel is the perfect urban hide-away. The hotel features over 250 original works of art on the grounds including paintings, photographs, and sculptures from local artists. You will receive free tattoos upon check-in and don't forget to check out our Phoenix Fun Book, a coloring book inspired by the eclectic history of the hotel. Services and Amenities • Complimentary poolside continental breakfast • Free car parking and bus parking available • Outdoor heated swimming pool with San Francisco landmark underwater mural by Francis Forlenza called "My Fifteen Minutes" • Complete concierge services including staff-authored guide books to The City • Room service from Waiters On Wheels • Access to nearby fitness center • Same- day laundry service available • Massage service available in your room or poolside • Backflip Cocktail Lounge

  • OH BOY! Our first surprise when we got to SF was our Luxurious Hotel. When we were told to stay here, we never imagined what we were going to find. It has to be the most beautiful hotel we have stayed in; and our view: ALCATRAZ. The most friednly staff, huge rooms with Aveda products and Starbucks in-room stuff included, this hotel itself was a great vacation.

W Hotel San Francisco: MODERN   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Set in the heart of downtown San Francisco's "South of Market," W San Francisco stands out with the offbeat, yet sophisticated spirit of the city it calls home. Literally stands out. On the Third Street Frieze of W San Francisco, towering 46 feet above street level, is a fantastic reclining figure made of irregularly sheared bronze strips woven together. Conceived by a local artist to complement to the neo-classical design of W San Francisco, the figure (with one arm draped casually over the edge of the podium) also reflects W's whimsical reinvention of public and private space. Experience it for yourself.

Located at Third Street and Howard, W San Francisco is adjacent to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and directly across from the Moscone Center. In an important part of the new development area called "Yerba Buena Gardens," we are five blocks from Union Square and just steps from an eclectic array of boutiques, theaters and galleries. The Metreon, a new high-tech Sony entertainment center that includes a multi-screen theater, is just one block away.

Hotel Astoria San Francisco: Great deal for SF   Compare Rates NEW!

  • I got a room at this place for the stunning price of $35 a night off orbitz.com!!!!!!!!!!! It's well located-right near the entrance to Chinatown and then north is North Beach/Telegraph Hill, close to Union Square, Civic Center, loads of restaurants within walking distance. Nice chinese people run this hotel. It seems to be popular with overseas visitors from Asia for obvious reasons. It's a basic place - clean, good bed, TV works fine, plenty of room. I had to share the bathroom right outside the door with one other guest which was never a problem. Why pay an extra 30 bucks just for a private bathroom when you can have a well kept clean bathroom share? You share the bathroom with your housemates/ roommates dont you?

location, value, clean, a real SF bargin

Hyatt Regency - San Francisco: Great Location and amenities   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Since I live here, I have never stayed here. But if I were to pick a place this is one of the ones I'd pick. You can't beat the location for proximity to public transit, walking neighborhoods, and views. The California Street Cable Car line stops right outside the hotel and never has lines, compared to the Powell Street counterparts. The property is beautiful with its grandiose lobby and atrium. Word on the street as that you can get rooms here for well under $100 right now on Priceline. Visit www.biddingfortravel.com for tips on how to get the best rates.

Equinox is a revolving bar and restaurant. While a pricey option, it's fun to get a drink and sip it though one revolution. This is one of the places I always take my visitors. Fantastic views!

Good base in central San Francisco, very close to Union Square, and Powell Street and not too close to Tenderloin. Other central IYH hostel was in a much dodgier area a couple of blocks away. I had a private room, with bunk beds, sink, locker and chair, and two windows looking into air shafts. Shared shower / toilet facilities in hallway. Only about $35 per night with $3 reduction for Hostel Association members. Family, en suite, and dorm rooms also available at different rates.

Fairly plainly decorated, and large kitchen only equipped with fridge, toaster and microwave, but plenty of restaurant options around. Offered range of activities, including day trips to Yosemite, or Wine Tasting in Napa, or free walking tours around the city.

Prescott Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel: Great boutique hotel   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:

  • I stayed at the Prescott Hotel for 3 nights and really enjoyed the hotel. Its location couldn't be better, just two blocks from Union Square. Rooms are large, with king size beds, a sitting area and very nicely decorated, with marble bathrooms and good Aveda toiletries. Cable tv offers many channels. The service was also good though not outstanding. In the afternoons they serve wine in the lounge, where there is a nice fireplace and it's a wonderful place to relax after a busy day shopping or visiting the city. There is no breakfast room but you can order breakfast to your room. There aren't many choices though and it's a bit on the expensive side. They have a restaurant though , the Postrio, where you can have your meals. I had lunch there once and it was very good. If you are driving, they have valet parking, so , you don't have to worry about it.

    Excellent location!

Hostelling International- San Francisco/ Downtown: Wonderful Hostel in San Francisco
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I stayed at this hostel a couple of years back and it was wonderful. It is located right next to the bay, on top of a little hill. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There was a nice old man who mind the counter at the cafe. He makes the best hot chocolate. Every night, after a long day of sight seeing, I would sit at the cafe, sipping the hot chocolate.

A cute little cafe with an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The hostel also offers free guided tours around San Francisco. I went on one such tours. A volunteer who lived in San Francisco took us on a walking tour around San Fran. We went to the nice neighbourhoods with winding streets, to the city centre and finally had a nice lunch at a vegetarian restaurant. Lovely!
