Houstonians Love Cow Hollow Motor Inn and Suites

We have stayed at Cow Hollow numerous times over the years and feel that we are coming home every visit. The location is the best for a nice walk to the marina, Exploratorium, and Fort Mason. Chestnut Street has wonderful restaurants and delis, and movie theatre. We used the bus at the handy stop on Chestnut to get to the ballet, to the Caltrain station, Beach Blanket Babilon, Golden Gate Park, North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf and to the cable car stop. Even though Cow Hollow doesn't charge for their fabulous parking garage, we were delighted to be in a location that allowed us to have fun without the car and parking problems in the city. The staff are wonderful and helpful, rooms are great, w. king size beds, and the Bay Watch Restaurant is fabulous for breakfast right down stairs. The price is right. Everything about Cow Hollow makes it the best deal in San Francisco for these Houstonians!
Great stay at Cow Hollow!

My family spent a week at Cow Hollow and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a fantastic location and the rooms were large and clean. We have a 2 year old and a 6 year old who easily jumped into the swing of hotel life here. We found a parking space every night and rejoiced over the fact that we didn't have to take public transportation with the children. I probably spent two months searching out the best hotel and I felt I did it when we booked at Cow Hollow. The AAA rate had us go to the local AAA here and join so we got a two for one type deal....membership at AAA for a year and a great hotel for under $100. There is a FANTASTIC doughnut shop at the corner, a great sushi place across the street and a laundry mat one block down. I really would recommend this hotel especially after I saw what downtown looked like :) You can't beat the price and LOCATION!

We stayed in the Cow Hollow Inn (on Lombard Ave, in the Marina District) on April 2 and 3, 2005. The two-queen room was large and clean. The hotel has free parking. (Parking runs $30-40 per night at downtown hotels.) There are many good restaurants nearby. I would note especially Mel's Drive-In, which is right across the street. Meatloaf, fried chicken, roast turkey. All *very* good. But not cheap.
San Francisco's 100$ Centrally Located Inn, Motels

Love Redwood Inn (Motel) in the Cow Hollow area for its value, location n views,
Only problem is the heavy traffic noise, so getting a room high up (it’s 3 or 4 storey high) n away frm the street is a good idea
Another solid, no frills budget option is Hotel Mayflower on Bush St, also in the center of the city
Cheers Keep Smiling Location, Cleanliness
Cow Hollow Motor hotel San Francisco

We stayed there on the second week of August.
This hotel is a good option if you have a car because it comes with free parking, which is handy in San Francisco. The rooms, although not very tastefully decorated, are big, confortable and clean and so are the bathrooms. We overlooked Lombard Street and had a nice view (when it wasn't foggy). Opposite the hotel, Mel's diner is a great place for breakfast. It's a 50's style diner with excellent -though not cheap - food. The area around the hotel is also interesting because not very touristy. The nicest streets for a walk are across Lombard Street.
Absolute Gem

I stay at the Cow Hollow every time I go to San Francisco. Clean, cute rooms and friendly staff. Excellent location for restaurants, bars, and a bit of shopping. The suites are like a home away from home and excellent for a group of friends or a family! I'm going back soon....
Would stay again

Picked the Cow Hollow for the reasonable price, free parking and location. It is a very clean hotel, bathrooms are very clean and up to date. Has high speed internet access, soda and ice machines on each floor. Our room overlooked Lombard St and was noisy, but we live along a busy noisy street so it didn't bother us too much. The staff was not overally friendly, but assisted us with bus routes and even allowed our friends to exchange parking spots with us so that we could ride together to the pier. I would recommend and stay at the Cow Hollow again.

i stayed at the cow hollow the week of march 26th in 2005 and could not have been more pleased the room, staff, location, and price they were all superior! the in and out parking was great and the ladies at the front desk were always cheerful the pictures on their website are not up to date the rooms are much better than the ones on the website ! my room was large with a room bathroom all well kept and if you ask for one toward the rear on the third floor you will get a great view of the city
the cow hollow is located on lombard close to van ness the main drag of the city and also you are very close to the golden gate bridge and plenty of places to dine within walking distance and the neighborhood is safe
very satisfied!!
Good value in San Fran
by TripAdvisor Member bbg8r
We stayed at Cow Hollow for one night on a two day visit to San Fran last week. First and foremost, its very hard to beat the price of this hotel and the free parking in San Francisco. There is free internet in the room as well. The map they give you when you check in is a great map for touring the city. The room is clean but just an average hotel room, the showers had absolutely NO pressure which is a big negative for me. There are great restaurants very close by on either Chestnut or Union St. I would stay here again on a return trip.

You can read my tip on it at http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/38cf6/b870f/3/.
If you do a search for San Francisco and look at the accommodations tips, there may be more.

I've stayed there before. It's the same quality of a Holiday Inn. It's located in the Marina District, there are a lot of restaurants and bars right outside the hotel, especially on Lombard Street and Chestnut Street. The hotel offers free underground parking. Overall a great stay in a nice district of San Francisco!

I would stay out there if I had either had a car, liked to walk long distances (a mile or two), or didn't mind city buses. There are restaurants, and it's not far to the Marina Green, but most of the tourist stuff (Fisherman's Wharf, the museums, Chinatown, the Ferry building, etc) are kind of far. If you have a car, I think they have a parking lot, but if you want to be in the thick of things you might want to be downtown or at the Wharf.

I've had friends who have stayed there and like it for it's convenience and location. Although in the Marina district it is very easy to get around to Fisherman's wharf, Ghirardelli Square, Pier 39, Downtown Union Square and Chinatown, The Golden Gate Bridge etc... To get to the wharf and downtown areas you can catch the #30 Stockton bus on Chestnut street which is one block away. This bus will take you to Ghirardelli, the wharf area, North Beach, Chinatown and downtown. Taking it the other way will take you to the Palace of Fine Arts. Also a block away on Chestnut and Laguna streets is the #28 bus which takes you directly to the Golden Gate Bridge. It's very easy to get around from that area without much walking at all. Enjoy!

The busses are available. It isn't that bad of a walk to the Wharf, and Pier 39.. You aren't going up and down hills, or grades. If you walk over to the Marina Green, there are nice views of the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, and the bay. If you turn right, and walk down the trail, you will come to Fort Mason, which has several small museums. You will also pass the USS Pampanito, a WWII era sub, which you can tour. There is also the Jeremiah O'Brien, a WWII Liberty Ship. A little further on you will come to the Hyde Street Pier which has a schooner, tugboat, ferry, and one or two other sailing vessels on display. You will also pass the Maritime Museum, but I believe it is closed for upgrade right now. Gary
