Affordable accommodation close to transport

We spent 4 nights at the Embassy Hotel. Although most people didnt agree with where we stayed, we were quite happy. The hotel is over 100 years old, with key locks for the rooms. It's location is quite deserted at night, but during the day is quite a busy area. The hotel is 1 block north of the Civic Centre.

The complimentary breakfast is small, coffee and muffins, but the service is friendly and the rooms are in good shape. There is no central heating - only oil heaters and windows that open. But judging by SF's weather that's all you'd need.

It's an affordable hotel with a good location for using the public transport, particularly the busses. However if you are nervous of dark quiet areas I would not recommend it. There are no other hotels near by so it is a little isolated. There are quite a few homeless people that sleep in the area but we had no problems.

Great place if you're used to sleeping in hostels and want a step up.

Unique Quality: The hotel is a really pretty building. Also there is a good Irish pub attatched to the hotel.
