Which Hostels are good in San Fran?

by Tubs1980

Hi,

I'm travelling from the UK in six weeks and want 4 nights in a cheap but clean hostel. Preferably I'm looking for one that does double rooms as I'm travelling with girlfriend in tow!

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the European Guest House, Green Tortoise, Union Sq Backpackers or Travellers Inn?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

T

Hello,

I have the same concerns as I will arrive in SF on the 15th of sept and will stay for one week. I do not mind staying in a backpackers but because I will have travelled 15 hours from Melbourne Australia, I will want a good night of sleep not in a bakcpackers for the first day.

PLEASE GOOD quiet LOW BUDGET HOTEL ADVISE!

I can't talk from experience as I'm from the Uk too and just like you waiting for opinions on the hostels! But from what I have seen the Green Tortiose looks like good value for money.. a lot of things are free! ;o) The only thing I found with this one that I didn't like is that it's on or near Broadway and aparantly thats where there are a lot of strip clubs or something (letsgo.com said "herds of wandering he-men and she-men duck into the Broadway strip clubs")

If I am wrong *please* someone correct me because otherwise i think the green tortoise is fab.. but now I'm not sure if I should stay or not!

I haven't read much on the other ones you mentioned but the Hostelling International Hostels (there are 3 - downtown, city centre and fisherman's wharf) well there are mixed reviews about the first two but the fisherman's wharf one seems to be highly rated (for reviews check out www.hostelz.com.. plus there is a great view..
