Cheap dives in San Francisco
If you're looking for a cheap place to crash that's close to where the action is, these hotels might be worth checking out. These places have daily rates of around US$45 - with special "weekly" rates. Not bad for a room in the heart of San Fran with, in most cases, your own private bath and TV.
The prices go up and down depending on the season, the demand, and the mood of the management- so the prices I give are the average. These hotels are nothing fancy, but are good options for independent, budget travelers that loathe the hostel scene (like me).
Unique Quality: Sweden House Hotel : 570 O'Farrell (Tender-Nob) #415-345-9331 ; nice hotel in a pretty good location and weeekly rates are a little over $200. It must be noted that they insist you stay for at least two weeks. They also have a website: www.sfswedenhouse.com
Spaulding Hotel : 240 O'Farrell (Union Square) #415-397-4924; VERY close to the main tourist strip downtown. Great location, and because of that the prices tend to be higher than the other hotels. In fact, their weekly prices are around $350 now.
Harcourt Hotel : 1105 Larkin (Tender-Nob) #415-673-7721 ; in a more quiet, residential area. Further from downtown than the other two, yet close to some good restuarants and bars on Polk Street, and the prices are good. Weekly rate are from $200 to $240.
