Loved Hotel Del Sol
Hotel Del Sol was fun, bright, clean and cheery. The staf was extremely accomodating and professional. I loved the character of the decor, it was retro 50's modern amenities. I will definitely stay there again.

I really enjoyed the Del Sol, for a weekend in SF, celebrating my birthday. The hotel is conveniently located near chestnut street in the marina/cow hollow area. It's within walking distance of plenty of nighlife spots and because it's a motor hotel, there's convenient assigned free parking for guests - that's a big deal in SF where it can cost $40 per night to park and where your only other option is to fight for parking and risk getting towed or fined.
In the heart of Cow Hollow – my favorite area in San Francisco (partly biased because I used to live there). You are a few blocks from the tons of boutiques and charming restaurants on Union Street…think Newbury Street for you Bostonians. You also have easy access to the shops and restaurants of the Marina.
The hotel itself sports a “festive’ color scheme – which may come across a little kitchy at first, but it is very clean, the rooms are sizeable, and the front desk offers complimentary warm cookies every evening, and a continental breakfast every morning.
Every staff member I interacted with during our stay had a smile on their face and was very helpful.
Price is reasonable for San Francisco, and the hotel comes equipped with an over-sized hammock in the court yard!
For a no nonsense, family friendly hotel, check out Hotel Del Sol. The staff is friendly and helpful. They give beach balls and sunglasses to the kids. And you pick the bar of soap and the pillow that you'd like. It's in a great local neighborhood, but is close to public transit, which is excellent.
Unique Quality: The rooms and hotel are bright and sunny. The outdoor pool is nice, but good luck finding a San Francisco evening that isn't too cold to swim. There is free parking at the hotel, which is a huge plus in a city that's nearly impossible to park in.
we stayed at this hotel at the end of July, and I have to say that the weather was quite awful in san francisco: wet and really cold, with a thick fog... But even though the sun kept hiding, we felt warm and cozy at the hotel del sol: bright colours everywhere, a hearty welcome, a nice little pool.... We were absolutely delighted with our stay!
Unique Quality: First, we really appreciated the man at the front desk: he gave us a list of free leaflets on SF ans its best restaurants, best hidden gems, best shops, etc.... and told us he would make copies of the ones we were interested in. Then, we fell in love with our bedroom: the colours cheered us up, and we liked the pineapple handmade soap waiting for us on the washbasin in the tiny but absolutely immaculate bathroom. We were also totally satisfied with the neighborhood: a short walking distance from Chestnut street and its restaurants. Finally, we had a great time eating our breakfast by the swimming pool, sipping their delicious banana juice under the palm trees. Tropical fever in SF!!!!

We stayed in this boutique hotel int he Cow's Hollow area of San Francisco. We felt very safe in the neighborhood during the day and at night. We had honeymooned in Lake Tahoe and Napa Valley and this was the last leg of our trip. We were only in SanFrancisco for one night, but this hotel was in the right location, close to all the touristy stuff we wanted to do. There was also a lot of good shopping for a 25 year old girl! The hotel had a great atmosphere, was very colorful and vibrant. The room we were in was in a corner and had no sunlight, so it had to be the worst room in the place! Every Friday night they had a bar-b-que for their guests, which was nice. Also continental breakfasts. If you stay here, you HAVE to eat at the Braizen Head restaraunt. Very good food (steaks) and cool atmosphere. No sigh outside, so ask where it is or you'll NEVER find it.
Unique Quality: All hotel balconies faced small pool that it was always to cold to swim in. Staff are owners and are very friendly. Free parking, which can be hard to come by in San Francisco.

I had the pleasure of a 3 month stay in one of the suites at the Hotel Del Sol. The staff was great and knowledgeable of the area. The suites have a wonderful unique colorful style in addition to being spacious and relaxing. The hotel is located in the Marina/Cow Hollow section of San Francisco. This area has some of the best restaurants and bars in the city. While staying at the Hotel Del Sol please try Cafe Maritime on Lombard you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend the Hotel Del Sol.
My family (parents and 3 kids) stayed at the Hotel Del Sol for 5 nights during our recent trip to SF. The location is great ... Cow Hollow is near all the classic SF locations (Fisherman's Wharf, Presidio, the Cable Car rides, etc) but is in a much quiter area ... in addition there are a ton of resteraunt and shops in the immediate area. The hotel is very customer focused and does lots of things for the guests ... free breakfast ... free cookout on Friday night ... a bag of sport equipment the kids coule borrow (and even take to a local park). For the price a definite 5-star experience. We'll definitely stay at the Hotel Del Sol when we return to SF!
We were in San Francisco as tourists for 3 nights at the Hotel Del Sol. You must accept it for what it is...an older motor inn given a fresh coat of paint. The paint is no longer so fresh, but the rooms are reasonably clean. It is a bargain for a family of 6 as we were...a two room suite (Queen bed plus a small bunk room), free breakfast (the same each day so we spiced it up with selections from local bakeries a short walk away) and a small pool. The location is great...in Cow Hollow just a short walk from trendy Union Street and a bit longer walk (but quite do-able) from Lombard Street, the Marina District, Fishermans Wharf and North Beach/Chinatown. Free parking is worth $20-30 in the city. It was in centrally located in the city but still fairly quiet at night and more of a neighborhood setting...they even loan (for free) videos of movies set in SF! One warning...SF in the summer can be quiet cool (60's) especially when the fog comes in and the wind blows (the only good view of the Golden Gate Bridge I had for 3 days in July was when driving over it!) so be prepared with a light jacket or fleece and long pants! The irony of the Hotel del Sol was that in July is was not very sunny there!
Hey everyone. Just visiting for two weeks and would love to hit a spot that would just be fun, lively and kind of a party spot. Noise and ruckus doesn't really matter to me that much. Just want to take in the sites, but also want to live some of the nightlife, yaknow. Living in Boston in wicked awesome but I still want to check out what SF has to offer.
Some say that I should crash at the Phoenix hotel and others are telling me that I should check out Fisherman's wharf.
Just wondering what the locals thought...
Thanks for the help and time......

Don't stay at a hotel near Fisherman's wharf. This area of the city is only for tourists and is filled with tacky t-shirt shops and overpriced restaurants to gouge tourists.
Personally I would stay in the Haight. It has much more character and it is easy to catch the N-Judah muni downtown. The Red Vic is a nice small boutique hotel near Haight-Ashbury.
It all depends on what you like. If you're looking for the tourist crowd, they're all staying at the Wharf and near Union Square. The more well-heeled set will be on Nob Hill at the Fairmont, Mark Hopkins, the Stanford Court, or the Huntington Hotel. Yuppies tend towards the Marina District (try the Hotel del Sol). The Haight and the Tenderloin are decidedly grittier districts. Both the Phoenix Hotel and the Commodore Hotel are in the Tenderloin, though some may try to call that "lower Nob Hill" or "outer Union Square" or such. Both hotels are frequented by whatever musicians are in town and so-called "hipsters." I have to admit, however, that the bars connected to them (the Red Room at the Commodore, the Bambuddha Lounge at the Phoenix) can be quite lively. The Bambuddha Lounge is decidedly nicer as far as decor, but the crowd at the Red Room is much friendlier.

All hotel balconies faced small pool that it was always to cold to swim in. Staff are owners and are very friendly. Free parking, which can be hard to come by in San Francisco.
