Hotel Griffon San Francisco, CA

2-Star Experience. Requested upgrade to "Bay View" and received a closet size room with a nice view but temperature was too hot and could not be helped. Offered a 6" fan to compensate the heat, bellhop opened the window to cool room but that let in all the noise, and told the vent blows from behind the (hot) television. Requested another room and after changing, received a view of the fire escape. Not a romantic experience. Suggest you stay near Fisherman's Wharf. Too far from the attractions.

$75.00 Incidentals Fee will be charged on your card, so follow up on that if you see it on your bank statement.

Euro feel in Financial District

This is my type of biz hotel. Across the street from my appointment, near great restaurants, free wifi, and smaller but well-appointed (non-chain) rooms. I paid $239 a night, less than the $300+ neighboring hotels were offering.

Unique Quality: Tiny lobby and even tinier elevator tells you they aren't catering to the masses here - and that's a good thing.

The Alamo Square Inn is one of the city's many fine B&Bs. It occupies two mansions facing the square, a park famous for its post-card views of the city. One mansion is a lovely old Victorian; one is Tudor-revival on the outside, with a distinct Arts & Crafts feel on the inside. Cozy, tidy, affordable, and gracious and accommodating innkeepers. A find! Near the Embarcadero, the Hotel Griffon is a small, European-style boutique hotel. Very classy, a little more pricey, but a terrific location.

I'm visiting San Francisco from Chicago for the first time and have found some hotels on the net that that seem to be nice. Has anyone had any experience with these hotels and how are the neighborhoods? The hotels I am considering are: Nob Hill Lambourne, Hotel Palomar, Inn at Union Square, Hotel Griffon or The Majestic. Thanks for your help!

The Hotel Palomar is great. Their 5th Floor Restaurant has won numerour awards and the rooms are a great value.

Yep, I'm with Dave. Since I live here, I've rarely stayed in any SF hotels, ya know? But the Palomar's got a great ambiance, and 5th Floor (the restaurant) is magnificent.
