Hotel Palomar-Accessible to everything
The Hotel Palomar is situated on Market and 4th Street, and is above the Old Navy shop, beside/over the Westfield Shopping Mall.
The foyer was a little impersonable for our liking, and included a small amount of seating to the left as you enter, and a window seat on the right. The check in desk is situated to the right.
The staff were very friendly at all times, and we have to mention Kevin the concierge, who was very nice. Our room was a double double delux, and we overlooked the zen gardens, which was lovely. We didnt hear any noise the whole time we stayed. The rooms are very nicely furnished, in a modern contemporary style, with zebra and tiger printed bathrobes hanging in the wardrobe for your use, nice ;-)
The bed was huge and the pillows were perfect- very important for me!
The bathroom was a nice size, with a great power shower, and has a hairdryer ready for use, the L'Occitane bath products were well used by us.
We had a paper waiting for us outside the door every morning.
One thing I would have liked would be to have been able to open the window and get some fresh air, even a little bit. The air conditioning was fine, but nothing beats a little bit of fresh air for me.
We went to the bar on the 5th floor for some cocktails one night, and the bar lady was very friendly and chatty. We only ended up staying for 2 drinks though as they were particularly expensive.
There is a wine tasting hour every evening between 5 and 6. We got a glass of wine a couple of nights and the night before we left, we went down and sat and chatted with the manager who was hosting the wine tasting, which was very beneficial for us, she kept topping us up and we left with an unopened bottle too ;-)
Unique Quality: Very quiet room, no noise at all. It helped that we were at the back of the hotel overlooking the zen garden, and not at the front of the hotel overlooking the road.
Staff were very friendly at all times.
Location was great, on 4th and Market.
My husband used the gym facilities several times. It was small but functional, with about 5 items to use.
Directions: Market St and 4th Street. Go to the end of the Cable Car Turn around on Powell/Market St, take a left and the next right.
Nice boutique hotels
I've stayed with Kimpton Group hotels 90% of the time when I travel to SanFrancisco.
The staff is accomodating and the rooms are well kept. I seldom stay during the weekends first because the rooms are more expensive then and second because the hotels are busy with guests who like to party and stay up late.
Unique Quality: Hotel Serrano is nice mediterranean with free computers and a gym in the lower level. Also a sauna. Very nice conceierge (Stefan) and Desk clerk (Pam). Aveda products in bathroom.
5:00 wine reception in lobby. Ponzu resturant makes fabulous drinks.
Hotel Triton very cool modern atmosphere. Eco friendly rooms, and hop skip and jump from Chinatown gates. Air purifier in room. Small coffee pot, plush linens.
