The hostel Lonely Planet calls the, "Friendliest of City Hostels" & rated No.1 in North America by HostelWorld in 2007 is a wonderful place to stay for travelers looking for place that feel like a home away from home. Our friendly, fun staff are here to make sure you have a great time in San Francisco. The facilities are recently renovated and kept are kept meticulously clean and the common room is a great place to meet new friends on your path of travel.

Unique Quality: Small & friendly.

Pacific Tradewinds Hostel

Unique Quality: Great staff, friendly blokes from all over the world, great location, relatively safe area, with butt-kicking Chinese food down the block. What amazed me was the number of English backpackers who would flock to the McDonald's that was five blocks away. Apparently, when you're touring the US for months at a time, you tend to crave cheap, consistent food. I haven't eaten a McDonald's hamburger sice I was 8, so I'm stunned.

Directions: Chinatown, not far from the financial district
