Finding a good and cheap hotel in San Francisco is extremely difficult, especially if you'r looking for a good location as well. Most of the hotels in the city cluster around exclusive Union Square or kitschy Fisherman's Wharf. The best bet is to look for hotels in the somewhat eclectic but mainly safe Civic Center area. I stayed at the Ramada Plaza Hotel International, which was actually very nice, for only $109 a night. The room was small and lacked a view and cable television, and the bathroom seemed to have a smaller floor area than my desk, but a hotel room is for sleeping in, not loitering in when one could be walking about, and so as long as the beds were made, I was happy. The hotel is said to be extremely popular with European visitors for some reason, and I experienced this each night when I tried to fall asleep to the sound of an Italian couple screaming at each other. In any case, the bellhops were cordial and it had a Starbucks downstairs to wake me up in the morning. The hotel is actually pretty central to everything; only 5 blocks to Union Square, right across from Civic Center, and equidistant from the Financial District and the Castro. All the many public transit options of Market Street lay just outside as well. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than average
