Day trip to Sonoma/Napa

by youngwanderer

Hi,

We're travelling to San Francisco in September and want to take a day trip to wine country without driving. Is it best to take public transport (if so, how do we get there/around?) or can anyone recommend a good tour we can book onto?

Thanks in advance!

Have a look at Jefie's San Francisco page, I know she did one last fall when we were there and enjoyed it

There are a number of companies that handle Napa tours for the day. One such is http://www.winecountrytourshuttle.com/m/wine_country_tour.php , but a Yahoo/Google search of "Napa Wine Country Tours" will give you dozens of results.

Public transportation, unfortunately, is not a good option. You would have to take a Golden Gate Transit bus to Petaluma or Santa Rosa and transfer to a Sonoma County Transit bus - a very slow process.

I have to say, you need to drive. It's difficult to get around this area without a car, especially if you are touring wineries. If you're worried about drinking/driving, rent a limo or wine tour after you are already in Sonoma. You can take Golden Gate transit, but after you arrive, you're on your own. My advice is to rent a car.

Best Area to Stay in San Francisco

by risse73

I love to stay around the Union Square area whenever I am in San Francisco. It is the best place to be as you are right in the heart of all the action and you can easily navigate the city on foot or via public transport from there.

Goodluck & do enjoy your visit to beautiful SF!

Need I say more. There are already plenty of good tips on Alcatraz in VT.
I just made this tip to show you the sign at the left
I cannot stress to recommend making reservations if you are traveling in the high season.

A View From Anywhere!

by Bwana_Brown

This is a city that looks good from any angle! Because of its surrounding hills, oceans and bays there are so many different views of the city that it is amazing. During our day-trip to the Golden Gate Bridge and surrounding area, we stopped on the north side of the bridge in Sausalito for a lunch-time meal. This was the view across San Francisco Bay from the restaurant, showing (from left to right) the Bay Bridge to Oakland, Alcatraz Island (in front of the bridge) and the appealing main downtown area of the city.

visit the world's most famous bridge - the Golden Gate Bridge - the City's pride and joy!!!

And here's a little trivia for you: Just in case you're wondering... No, the Golden Gate Bridge was not devastated by the horrendous earthquake of 1989. Phew!!
