Great view of Union Square

We stayed in a room facing Union Square great view of all the activity down below. Alot of street noise from the room, sirens and cable cars, but we were in the city!

Unique Quality: For over a century...
Located in the heart of the city, facing Union Square, it has maintained its preeminence as San Francisco?s center of social, theatrical, and business life since first opening in 1904. As one of the last survivors of colorful, turn-of-the-century San Francisco, The Westin St. Francis is as modern as tomorrow ? with a proud past ? a collecting place of history and legend.

Only remaining hotel from the

I marveled at its structure - it being the only hotel standing after a devasting earthquake. It's over 100 years old.

Union Square has its proximity to shopping, museums, and of course access to all of San Francisco. Opera curbside was exsuisite on a beautifully clear, and windy day in October . Service was impeccable, amenties sufficient, comfortable and spacious. The drinks flow and the food is excellent.

Unique Quality: Views could not be had from my room. Mine was a functional accommodation; the business guest - at a reasonable cost with a reasonable amount of shopping. Taxis readily available and staff anxious to assist.

Fabulous Hotel In the center of town

This was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in, right on the square with a cable car stop right in front. I highly recommend this one, the excellent accomadations are well worth the steep price.

Unique Quality: Historic building, great location, rumored to have ghosts.......

The Legendary Service Was Nowhere to be Seen

We had heard lots of great things about the legendary service at the Westin St Francis, so we were very disappointed by our stay there.

We found the staff to be rude and difficult. At one point we had to practically beg for a safety deposit box, even though they were free to guests, because the receeptionist did not think our reasons for wanting one was good enough.

Even though the hotel itself was not as good as expected (for a 4 star hotel) the location could not have been better. It is situated right on Union Square with Macy's one side and Tiffany & Co. on the other side and the cable cars stop right outside.

Unique Quality: Tour Desk and Hire Car Desk situated in the lobby.

A GREAT HOTEL

When I first visited SF in the 80's, my two friends and I stayed at the Westin St. Francis Hotel. It is a wonderful experience in luxurious, traditional San Francisco style. Whether you stay here or not, during your visit, walk in and look around the beautiful lobby and if you have the time and inclination, have some food or a drink in the very relaxing Compass Rose bar and restaurant. It's really a treat - expensive - but worth it if you love quality.

Wonderful View of SF!

There is not much you can say about this hotel that is not positive. I stayed on the 30th floor and had a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge, which is absolutely gorgeous in the evening. Top that off with a stunning view of downtown while taking the open view elevator on the way down, and you have the makings of a great hotel. Top that off with a Heavenly Bed! Voila, instant comfort.

I watched the history of the St. Francis on the television, which was exciting as well. During WWII, Admiral Nimitz worked here to develop the plan for the Pacific Battle. Douglas McArthur stayed here after the war was over... It was the initial meeting place for the UN, Ronald Reagan and Queen Elizabeth met here, and Gerald Ford was shot at just outside of this hotel.

Best splurge hotel

Of the Fairmont, Mark Hopkins, Ritz, any 4 or 5 star hotel this is the best because of its exciting central location. Cable Car right outside the door. In Union Square.

Unique Quality: Lobby, building, location all make this the best choice.

WESTIN ST FRANCIS

IS SOME ROOMS IN THE WESTIN ST FRANCIS BETTER THAN OTHERS? WHAT SI THE HOTELS GOOD POINTS? THANKS

RE: WESTIN ST FRANCIS

by YVRDave

The hotel has an old building and a newer tower. The tower is like any modern hotel room. The old building has different floorplans and higher ceilings. If you can get a Union Square view room in the old building at least the 5th floor or higher you would like it.

RE: RE: WESTIN ST FRANCIS

If you take the old building, stay away from the front rooms as you will have a beautiful view, but the noise from Powell street will not be nice, especially the cable cars clanging the bell late at night. The older part of the hotel will definately have more character.
