Madison Street Inn B&B St. Clara: Great place to relax in the Si-Valley
This is a great place with super-great hosts in Silicon Valley. I enjoyed very much the mordern-time comfort in a superb historic location. My favored bathroom was the shared bathroom with the museum-like interior and the shower with it's impressively large ancient showerhead, and all working perfectly. The super-great host family is worth a visit on its own. As I stayed there without rental car, I also liked very much the location, 15 min walk from Santa Clara Caltrain/Santa Clara university and 30 min walk from Westfield mall, from Santa Clara Caltrain you can easily reach SFO airport, and the Caltrain station also has a free bus shuttle to San Jose airport. The neighbourhood is very nice and calm with lots of interesting and nice wooden villas/houses/bungalows in nice gardens.
Unique Quality: Free WiFi, Free local Tel., Great hosts, Great location, Great Breakfast, 15min walk to St.Clara Caltrain, 30min walk to Westfield Mall

Towneplace Suites by Marriott: A really good place to be
This was my home-away-from-home for 4+ months. The service is really good. The staffs are nice and friendly and very helpful. The rooms are really clean and nice and comfortable. The kitchen, I love. I totally recommend this place for anybody.
Unique Quality: It has a pool. A gym (though small). Laundry room just downstairs. Grab-away breakfast in the morning. Biscuits in the evening. Free flow of coffee, tea and chocolate. Ample parking for car. The light rail station is just a few minutes walk away. Cinemas are also a few minutes walk away. You can have your mails posted by the staffs.
The best quality is that it is by the Great Mall. Need I say more on this?

Quality Inn & Suites, Mountain View: Best Value and Large Rooms
The hotel was easy to get to from the airport (about 15 minutes for me) and pretty close to downtown. It's just off the 101 freeway. The room was clean, with wireless Internet. I didn't run into anything out of the ordinary, but the staffs were very friendly at check-in.
Fine for business stay but not much around there for a family. It had a 24 hour business center, which is always nice. If you are staying for more than a few days, car rental may be a good idea as Taxi gets a bit expansive. The complimentary breakfast was nice and hot.
Unique Quality: A simple fitness center, a 24-hour business center, free wireless Internet, free breakfast.

W Silicon Valley: Up the road, but still a W
Although this hotel is quite a ways outside of San Jose, it is still an important location for the business traveller because of its proximity of the high tech businesses in the area.
The W Silicon Valley has all of the amenities you are used to in a W hotel, but it does seem like it is quite a ways away from the downtown scene.
I would recommend this if you need to do business in both Oakland and San Jose, but it is not convienent for San Jose alone.

Westin Santa Clara: Just outside San Jose City Limits - Westin
Without alot of distinction, many cities in the Silicon Valley are not distinguishable. Such is the case with the Westin Santa Clara.
The hotel is about 5 miles from the San Jose airport, which makes this a very convienent choice. With the ability to catch the trolley into downtown San Jose, this becomes even more attractive as a location to rest your head.
Included as in every Westin is the Heavenly Bed... and with it there is a very nice view of the city. Directly behind it is a golf course.

Sheraton San Jose Hotel: Wonderful hotel : )
This hotel is wonderfully situated near the highway, providing easy access to almost every part of the SF. Bay Area.
The beds & the rooms were definitely very clean and professionally cared for. However, the some furniture may need to be replaced. According to a hotel billboard, they are currently planning to replace all furniture within one year.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that is planning to stay in the area, for it has excellent facilities & the hotel rooms are very comfortable. The only problem is that there is only an outside pool(San Jose sometimes gets mild in summer), & the breakfast buffet is too expensive ($10-15)for the food it serves(half cold sausage and eggs).
Unique Quality: The landscape around this hotel is very well done, & the whole area is very quiet and peaceful, though it is not that far from the highway.

We stayed at the Fairmont...
We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. This hotel is truly amazing, and I felt like I wasn't an important enough person to be staying there.. Rob and I got off the plane wearing shorts and t-shirts. After walking by the Ferraris and Convertibles to get into the building, we were greated by suits and ties all sitting around someone playing piano in the lobby. Once we got over our initial embarrassment (and proceded to act like we owned the place!) we managed to do ok!
Here's my recommendation: get all dressed up, ladies in a nice cocktail dress, men in a nice suit, and have some drinks in the lounge. Then, proceed upstairs and crash whatever party you can! Rob and I managed to sneak into a companies xmas party and take advantage of the openbar! It was great!
It was over $300 USD per person per night.
Unique Quality: Great Pool, friendly service, classy people!

Craford Suites: Craford Suites
$125 This is very good for the area, considering this is Silicon Valley - land of the richest people in the world.
Unique Quality: It had only just been built when I arrives. They have a jacuzzi, swiming pool and gym.

You have several different...
You have several different options for lodging, most however are upscale (you won't find any hostels here!). Most of the downtown hotels cater to business travellers and convention goers, so if you come during the week, expect a high price. Weekends are the best time to visit, all the business travellers (like me) are gone!!

Travel just alittle...over to...
Travel just alittle...over to the coast between Santa Cruz and Monterey. There is a wonderful community of homes and condo's called Pajaro Dunes. The Pacific Ocean is your backyard.
Approximately $250 per night for a fully furnished, 3 bedroom condominium.
Unique Quality: Great views of the Pacific Ocean, 19 tennis courts, miles of pristine beaches.
