More about Moorpark Hotel

Great Hotel. Quiet, clean, hip and modern.

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I stayed at the Moorpark Hotel over the July 4th weekend. The hotel staff was very accomodating and friendly. The room was very clean, the bed with is very comfortable and the towels were extra thick.

Although the hotel is located close to freeway it is very quite. Santana Row is about 2 miles away, there are good resturants, shopping and people watching here. Also, the quaint town of Los Gatos is about 5 minutes away.

The pool area had nice cabanas if you wanted some shade. There is also a jacuzzi that we did not get a chance to try. Also, there is a computer for those of you who need to check emails or websurf on the first floor as well as internet connection in the room if you have a laptop.

Overall this is a great hotel, we booked through Orbitz and got a great deal. For the price you can't beat this hotel in San Jose.

Wonderful Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member eugenefranklin

Just got back from staying at the Moorpark Hotel this past weekend. I chose this hotel because I stayed at one of their sister properties "The Montgomery Hotel" which I found to be an awesome place.

The room was very spacious and quite swanky. The service at the front desk was very pleasant. I would recommend that you stay on the club level which is the 3rd floor. It's a little bit more but worth it because it is a quieter level and comes with extra perks. I was able to take advantage of their "Best Rate Guarantee" which matches a lower rate and gives you an extra 10% off. So double check on the internet before you book the hotel.

Don't be worried about any noise since the hotel is by the freeway because you won't hear it. I did take note that they did not have central air/heat and every room has a window unit (although that did not bother me). The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were a nice size. Each Club room comes with a cute club kit that includes a snack mix, mini bottle of wine, and mineral water which was complimentary. There is an honor bar if you want something extra. Club level guests also get a complimentary continental breakfast in the Park Bar and Grill located inside the hotel. That was nice spread. Just give them your room number and they won't charge you.

The only reason I did not rate this hotel as excellent was because I had to ask for bath robes that should have been in the room already. Also, when I was checking out, I let the front desk know that we had one coke from the honor bar. However, when she printed it the bill, she added 2 cokes and a raspberry popcorn. When I brought it to her attention, she asked me to point it out and was not apologetic while taking it off the bill. I found her not to be as friendly as all the other staff and to be quite emotionless.

Overall, I would probably stay here again!

The Best Place

by TripAdvisor Member Patricia059

I stayed at the Moorpark Hotel in San Jose in June 2005. I picked the hotel because it was close to a conference that I was attending. What a place!! The decor is beautiful and warm, as well as inviting. The front desk staff make you feel that you are the only one staying at the hotel--I got a call within minuites of getting to my room to make sure that everything was ok. The room was beautiful with feather beds and very thick towels--it was very comfortable--I could acutally live there! They even had Aveda products for me to use. They had a refrigerator stocked with soda, water and beer, and also had various snacks to enjoy. There was also warm chocolate cookies and milk waiting by my room each night, and a newpaper waiting for me in the morning. The restauarant and bar was very cool--good food, and fun waiters--the best place I have ever stayed!! And the price was reasonable!

Pleasant Stay at Moorpark

by A TripAdvisor Member

I enjoyed my stay at the Moorpark and would recommend it. I left something behind. The hotel notified me promptly by e-mail and charged me only the postage required to mail it to me. There were many other instances where the staff was friendly and helpful. On the negative side, the television was contained in a cabinet with doors that swung only 90 degrees. Therefore, it was difficult to view the TV from an angle.

Wonderful service, cute hotel

Just got back from a weeklong stay at the Moorpark for business in the Silicon Valley. I usually avoid small boutique hotels because of one bad experience. The Moorpark far exceeded all expectations. Great service from the front desk, very nice clean rooms. Even the toiletries were impressive. This is not the nicest or fanciest hotel I have ever stayed at, but it was by the far the best hotel experience I have ever had. The location is perfect for business travelers and close to the San Jose airport -- right off the hwy. However, I did not notice any street noise. Overall, the attention to detail in the rooms and by the entire staff made this a great stay. Highly recommend.

Best Hotel I've been to; and I travel a lot!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Upon entering the hotel, my guest and I recieved instant high-class service. We enjoyed our stay there more than any other hotel we have experienced, and we travel pretty often. The pool was refreshing, the complimentary breakfast was superb, and the room was extravegant!!! We spent some time in the billiards room and then experienced the Winchester Mystery House, (which was bought as a package with our stay at Moorpark). The best part was the service, it seemed as if every one of the staff were there to please you!!

will always return

My husband has stayed twice and our family (2 boys 14,11) once. It is an excellent value. Really close to the pricey Valencia at Santana Row hotel and just as good for a short stay. It is pretty and clean. There is a nice upstairs loft area which overlooks the lobby. We sat up there and watched the big TV and our kids playing pool at the same time. There is a small but very nice and clean swimming pool with a great jacuzzi, too. The, right on the fwy location, did not bother us a bit. It was convenient and once you're on the hotel grounds you don't notice the highway.

almost great

by TripAdvisor Member mspanSantaBarbara_Ca

The good: The first thing I noticed about the tasteful lobby was that it was very quiet and peaceful. The guest room (club floor) was impeccably clean and quiet. Beds comfortable. Tastefully decorated. The pool, not large and no "deep end," but large enough; a large hot tub, nice cabanas. Fitness room outfitted with brand-new equipment - machines and free weights, crowded with equipment, but no one else was in there.

The trifling: The info with my reservation said I would be welcomed by an amenity - water, wine, a snack and chocolates, milk and cookes at turndown. Nothing. No corkscrew even for the pay wine from the honor bar. So I went down to ask about this at the desk and we come to -

The real bummer: The evening desk clerk was cold as ice when he checked us in. When I went back to ask for a corkscrew he reluctantly handed me one, saying, "this is a corkscrew, there wasn't one in your room?" As though I might have failed to recognize the implement. Then he was very skeptical and condescending about the lack of a welcome amenity. He seemed to suspect that I had had one, consumed it and requested another. Very unfriendly. The morning clerk was unfriendly as well and I realized that the atmosphere at the front desk and attitude of the staff really does impact one's experience. (And we never did get the promised chocolates or cookies or milk or newspaper at our doorstep)

Also: there is a bar and grill that is widely advertised throughout the hotel to have a variety of meals and cocktails, but it wasn't open for dinner or breakfast, only for the continental breakfast (at which the staff seemed to suspect that the patrons were not on the club floor and therefore not elegible for the breakfast. They were watching a talk show in the dining room about intimate sexual matters which was very embarrassing for me to see my grandson taking in with interest.)

So the facility is comfortable, quiet, tasteful and well cared for, but the service is very off-putting and the amenities promised may not appear.

Hello??!!

what the!?
My husband and I are celebrating our 5th wedding ann. this weekend and I made a reservation on the tues. before the weekend through expedia. I would have made a reservation through the hotel website because they had a room avail. as of Tues. night, but expedia was cheaper.
I tried calling a few different contact no. for the hotel on Wed. at 1:30 p.m. to confirm my expedia reservation, but the phone just rang and rang. Very strange. I checked my email Thur. morning to find that I had received an email from the hotel cancelling my reservation with this quote "Next time that you wish to book a room at our hotel, here is our direct line. 408-864-0300." ok, whatever
That was the very same number I had tried Wed. afternoon. Called the hotel various contact numbers (Moorpark reservation line etc.) thur. morning - no answer. Called expedia who couldn't refund me without hotel confirmation and they got no answer. Called Joie de Vivre, the main company for the Moorpark, spoke to some very polite people in Canada, they tried the hotel and got no answer. FINALLY, (today thur.) got a call back from the Manager of the Moorpark who said the phones had been down for a few days and said she was calling from ANOTHER front desk no. which she then gave to me. I asked her why had I received an email only the night before with the out of service no. as being the contact no. and she had no valid response. She only wanted to shift the blame to Expedia saying that I had made the purchase through them so it was their problem. Very nicely unapologetic.
I mean where is the out of service message for the phone system? How come everybody seemed clueless about this? She also said she had received ANOTHER reservation for me through expedia this morning. I then told her - I DON'T WANT A RESERVATION - I JUST WANT A REFUND!!!
I mean what planet is this hotel on??? Would we have to travel to friggin Mars to stay there???
Long story short. She said she would call expedia back (wow, thanks) and I'm waiting for my refund. If you would like a prolonged negative experience - this is the place to stay.

WOW.....what a gem! Got this hotel on Hotwire for a really good rate and upgrded to Club Level on arrival by paying a minimal charge. If I am to be REALLY picky there were only two things which went a bit wrong. The first was that they didn't seem to have the Club room available despite the fact I had an email from them confirming it. The second was the hotel telephone system which rang and rang and rang with no one at the end of the line. When I went down the lady was on a personal call, I interrupted and she attended to my question. Now, having said that they did fix the room upgrade and it was just amazing. The beds are like the ones at Westin with plush coverings, great sheets and loads of pillows. Bath towels are huge & fluffy and rooms cleaned to perfection. Aveda amenities in the bathroom, free internet in every room (bring your lap top) and free mini bottle of wine, water & nibbles each day. Free breakfast for Club stayers which included 3 hot options, fresh juice, cereal, bakery and loads of tea/coffee. Despite out 2 hickups the staff are all awsome. Everyone says HI and nothing is too much trouble. I am an international flight attendant and stay in over 100 rooms a year. This hotel is so worth a stay! Do it!
