How do I get from Milpitas Light Rail to SF?

by KastleKonfusion

Hi there,

Tom and I will be in San Jose 15-30Aug, staying at the Crowne Plaza, Sillicon Valley. While he slaves through meetings after meeting during the day, I'd like to be visiting SF.

The hotel provides complimentary train station shuttle - Milpitas Light Rail.

How do I get from Milpitas Light Rail to SF?

Thank you for your suggestions.

God Bless,
Karan

Yes, caltrain definitely. Take Lightrail to Mountain View at Castro street, and change to caltrain. Caltrain only runs during weekdays -- it is under construction during wkends these days. The fare is about $5.00 one way the last time I checked. Have fun.

Is there any special 2 week pass for travel on Caltrains?

by KastleKonfusion

Thanks dude! That's what I'll do during the weekdays. I guess it'd take about an hour odd to get from Mountain View to 4th Street SF.

No pass - not that I know off. You can buy tickets at the station vending mahcine if you get there a few mins early. The cost will be 50c more on the train.

Travel Tips for San Jose

Eat, Drink, & Go

by Anthro

Unlike many European countries I have been to where restaurant-goers stay a long time conversing and eating very slowly, most people sitting at restaurant tables here have high turn-over rates. Since a waitor or waitress gets paid primarily from tips, it is to their financial benefit to rush the customers through the meal in order to sit new customers down in their station. Don't be surprised if the waitress is already bringing you the bill while you're still eating the meal. They come by while you're mouth is full, so when they ask you "How is everything? Can I get you anything else?" Your mouth is too full to respond, so you can only nod. This serves 2 purposes: 1. They can say that they checked up on you and 2. That signals to the waitor/waitress that you're ready for the check. Pay the waitress, leave a tip, and go.

Off the street and onto the Los Gatos Creek Trail

by Anthro

The Los Gatos Creek Trail is a paved path that twists and turns from Willow Glen all the way to Los Gatos. It follows the creekbed and can be taken all the way to the Lexington Resevoir. It is a great path if you're into running, cycling, or just strolling along for an afternoon walk. There are many accessible entry points and it is very lovely to be on. It also passes through Lake Vasona County Park, where kayaks and paddle boats can be rented during the summer weekends.

Dobashi Market

by cwest03

While in Japan town make sure to visit Dobashi Market which is found at 240 Jackson Street. This Japanes Market specializes in fresh fish, shellfish, rice, sake, Japanese condiments, fresh vegetables, japanese dry noodles, japanese bento lunches and japanese snacks. I go here to get my Black Black gum. Open for Business: Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Telephone: (408) 295-7794. And they speak fluent Japanese.

Can't do it without a car

by CCW

You need a car. No two ways about it.

If you come here on business and stay near the airport, you can use the trolley to get around downtown. But if you want to visit any of the outlying areas, your options are limited: the light rail system is designed more for commuters than for visitors, and the bus system is unbelievably slow.

(Once, staying at my mother's house near Campbell, I took a rental car I no longer needed back to the airport, a 20-minute drive. Then I rode the light rail and a couple of buses back to her house -- and that took an hour and a half! Arrrgh.)

Great Food

by vinegar about The Fish Market

This restraurant is great. The enviroment is great and the food is awesome. A must visit. New England Clam Chowder - I order it every time I come. It's so creamy and good.

Smoked Salmon - Great smoked salmon. Comes with delicious garlic bread.
