Need Help Locating Hotel Near this location......

by miraclelayne

Hello, new to VT. and needing the help of someone who knows the area, and can assist with the location of a nice, clean, exterior and interior hotel.

My boyfriend and I will be in the area in a few weeks on business and looking to stay at an affordable hotel near this address 1970 Naglee Ave, San Jose Ca, 95126 " Zanotto's Family Market". Don't worry, it's not a stake out or anything (smile). Are there any hotels in the area that you would recommend?

Budget wise, perfer under $120.00. But safe, clean, fresh, not dingy.

If you could provide me with the name and phone number or link to the hotel would be nice as well. Thank you. I don't mind doing the research myself, just don't know how to go about it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

You won't have any problem finding a place near here. It is actually a residential neighborhood (I can walk to Zonotto's Market from my house), but very close to both the airport and downtown. It really depends on what you want.

There are typical big hotels downtown (Marriot etc), as well as nicer local places like the Montgomery or De Anza (I've got tips on these two, which I would recommend). Closest to Naglee is a street called the Alameda, which has a few unremarkable motels like a Super 8 (oddly, with an Ethiopian restaurant). There are also a few motels on the Alameda west of highway 880, very close to your place, that are near Santa Clara University.

Travel Tips for San Jose

Santana Row/Valley Fair combines great shopping!

by jnettes13

Santana Row and Valley Fair mall (both across the street from each other) provide great shopping of most major retail shops, but if you're like me who's more into great restaurants, window shopping or being outdoors, this area is perfect to spend several hours at!

Both shopping centers have great restaurants, and Santana Row has outdoor seating for practically ALL of its restaurants and cafes! Valley Fair has a food court with a variety of cuisines for that quick bite.

Santana Row also has outdoor entertainment on the weekends and during the summer nights. A Farmers market is held twice a week. During the summer, outdoor movies are shown in one of the plazas, but for those that prefer indoor movies, there is a CineArts within Santana Row and Century Theaters across the street.

The only bad thing about this place is the traffic getting there. Traffic trickles from the main road onto the freeway and parking can be a hassle. But make sure you have comfortable shoes because once you do find parking you can pretty much walk everywhere!

Hockey with the Sharks

by MDH

Although San Jose is nowhere near the frozen lakes and fields of Canada and the Northeastern U.S. which spawned hockey, the city does have a good NHL team which has tried and tried (and has come very close) to getting the Stanley Cup.

If you're in San Jose, by all means try and see if you can get some Shark tickets. Although the majority of the crowds aren't from the East Coast or is Canadian, you'll be surprised by some of the downright passion people have for the Sharks here in Northern California. Sharks fans especially get rallied up when the much hated (and feared) Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs are in town.

The Sharks play at the Hewlett Packard Pavillion in downtown, which is affectionately known by the locals as "the Shark Tank." Around the Shark Tank, you'll find places dedicated to hockey equipment. However, hockey has yet to claim the dominant fanbase, as basketball, baseball and football are much more popular in the Bay Area.

Villa Montalvo Estate

by Kiisu

Villa Montalvo, in nearby Saratoga, is a nice historic estate with gardens, nature trails and a wonderful Mediterranean-style villa where many art events take place. I love to walk the trails up above the buildings, and many people like to picnic on the lawns. A nice place for a family Sunday afternoon. People used to be able to have their weddings there, perhaps you still can. 15400 Montalvo Rd., Saratoga.

Huge Upscalish Mall

by nomadig about Westfield Shoppingtown Valley Fair

If you have browsed all the boutiques on Santana Row, and still have some money left on your wallet, go over Stevens Creek Boulevard to Westfield mall and spent the rest there.

The mall has two department stores: Macy's and Nordstrom to begin with, and between these giants are over hundred specialty store. These stores cater most parts of life, so there is no need to go anywhere else.

As usual, there is also a foodcourt -- this time on the second floor. If you looking for any better meal, go back to Santana Row.

Traffic

by cwest03

Traffic around San Jose and the Bay Area can be pretty bad although things have gotten a lot better in the past year. I recommend avoiding going anywhere around rush hour. When is rush hour you ask? I would say 7a-10a in the morning and 5p-8p in the afternoon. There's really no good place to be during rush hour as all highways (101, 880, 680, 280) are pretty congested, It's best to find somewhere else to be.
