by mhowe about Sycamore Mineral Springs
After a fun-filled day of wine tasting in San Luis Obispo, we checked into the resort. Our room was named Zany. This struck us as a friendly, more personal approach than assigning us a room number.
We walked up a wooded path to our room and were soon soaking in our private tub of warm mineral water. Talk about relaxing…….it was heavenly!
We were so comfortable that we did not feel like making the effort to drive somewhere for dinner. We decided to eat in the resort restaurant. What a splendid idea that turned out to be! The Gardens at Avila is a fabulous restaurant that has often been voted the Most Romantic Restaurant in San Luis Obispo.
The amenities at these wine country accomodatiions are many. There are regularly scheduled classes in yoga, tai chi, and Pilates. They are complimentary for guests of the resort. You can meditate in the Labyrinth, an outdoor tool for calming the mind and relaxing the body.
There are guided as well as self-guided hiking at the resort. You can explore the Central Coast floral, wild life, and learn about this area’s history.
Spa facilities are available. This includes facials and massages. I had a massage in the spa on our second evening (while my husband snuck to the resort restaurant for a second crème brulee). The massage was wonderful and in a nice, quiet setting. The unique and very special thing about this resort is the hot mineral springs. Every room has its own private outdoor hot tub. Ours was a natural mineral water hot tub on the patio just outside our room. You can also select a room with fresh water.

i think one of the most interesting things to do in LA is to take the architecture tour. http://www.architecturetoursla.com/
going up the coast is a great way to see beauty. def. stop in santa barbara and go to henry's beach. you can take the 101 north just past shell beach and take a drive through see canyon, stay at the sycamore mineral springs.

drive to san luis obispo and get a room at the madonna inn; one of a kind. eat at firestone grill in SLO (san luis obispo) and go see a movie at the old freemont theatre.
drive up to hearst castle and take a tour or just hang out at san simeon beach and hike around. from there, there's big sur, and carmel's 17 mile drive is stunning. san francisco is just north. of course the number of things to do here are countless. i would check out travel pages or yelp.com for tons of tips.
have fun!
Nice Place for a Romantic Meal!
by orcoastgirl about Gardens of Avila
We had a very nice meal at the Gardens of Avila at the Sycamore Springs Resort a few days ago while on a day trip to the Central Coast. The ambiance is very nice, I enjoyed the Salmon entree with a glass of local Pinor Noir. We also shared the Spinach & Prawn salad which was great. The bread here is very fresh, housemade with fresh herbs, served warm and very yummy! Spinach Salad, Salmon

After that long walk on the beach or to unwind after the long flight to this magnificent area, I say you need to treat yourself to your own private outdoor sauna. Sycamore Spring Resorts has these magnificent sauna's available as well as a lovely garden to stroll through. You can stay on the grounds or just chill for the day. These mineral spring hot tubs are just the thing to enjoy the finer things in life without breaking your wallet. You can rent a tub for under $20.00 for the hour. Also there is a very cool walking labyrith circle around the gardens, a great way to realx the soul.

a hidden Shangri-La

I recently visited Sycamore Springs over Easter for the third time in about eight months. That alone should be a valid indicator of my pleasure with the resort. It is an awesome place to get away for rest, relaxation and a renewed outlook on life. The resort and restaurant are fantastic, far better than anything in Carmel/Pebble Beach where I live.
The staff is extremely accommodating and pleasant. They treat a person with courtesy and dignity while maintaining their own integrity. I feel very pampered and valued.
The rooms are very comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. But the most important feature is the private tubs. What a novelty! To soak away the aches and pains of everyday hard work and pent-up tension is nirvana. One can feel the freedom to be naked in total privacy. It’s great to be able to drain the tub and refill without the worry of fossil fuel waste or a drain on a California power grid. It’s entirely natural. The poison-release by the minerals is unbelievable.
Nearby Avila Bay is very quaint and inviting as is the well-preserved 50’s atmosphere of San Luis Obispo. One can enjoy many types of food and entertainment when choosing to resurface from the bottom of the tub.
I guess you can see that this resort is highly valued and recommended by this seeker of an occasional escape from everyday life!
Disappointed

This facility holds itself out to be a tranquil, beautiful place; however, its located on a very busy road. Further, we were woken up around 7am to the sound of construction equipment. It seems they are building more units right by the road. The "hiking" trails that Sycamore touts are basically a paved path past condos and a golf course, and a road that goes straight up (obviously designed for jeeps, not people) with no switchbacks. The hot tub and bathroom were nice, but the room decor was dated. The entire place had a vibe of more of a compound or camp than a resort. I would not go back.

The coeds from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The hot tubs in the rooms are fine especially for special friends met at the beach. The hot tubs in the hillside rentable by the hour wery, very invigorating especially for anatomy show and tell with strangers. But only avaiable if you want it to be. Discreet is easy to obtain. I guess that is fun as well.
Should have been better for the price

For $250/night you'd expect quality. Noisy traffic on Avila Beach Road was audible due to cheap, single pane glass. Room "Y-Not" in the "Harmony" building showed much wear, inside and out. It needed paint for starters. Bathroom is tiny. Furniture had water stains. Room service is slow. Setting among the oak trees on the hill is as beautiful as ever, but the way this facility is maintained and run will keep me away, especially for the $$$.
Horrible experience!

We went there spur of the moment, and stayed for 2 nights. The room was OK but smelled a bit "funky" and had horrible noise insulation, and the maid came by at 8am to service our room, despite the Do Not Disturb sign on the door!!! We told her to come back after 11am but they never came and we decided to forget about it for that day. Dinner at the Gardens was good, but we ended up getting food poisoning. The next day, the maid never came and when we spoke with customer service about it, they said the maid told them we didn't want to get our room serviced. The maid maintained that my fiance, who doesn't speak a word of Spanish, told her in Spanish that we didn't want help! The management hastily apologized but nothing was done to correct the situation immediately. We had to wait around for 2 whole hours in the evening for the maid to finally show up! Unacceptable, especially at over $300 a night!
This is not my idea of a retreat, it's right by a very busy road, and the rooms being so poorly insulated, you hear everything.
I would never go back and would absolutely never recommend this place.
