I Live Here 5 Days out of the Week
"Yeah, I live Here"
Most people in the Bay Area who say they are from San Francisco are more likely than not located outside of San Francisco. I'm a prime example. At VT, I tell people I am from San Francisco because it's a city that everyone world wide is familiar with.
I did go to Middle School, High School, and College in San Francisco, but it's been awhile since I've actually lived there. To be exact, I lived 15 years of my life in San Francisco until I moved to Alameda where I lived there for 5 years, and then, now, live part time in Sacramento and part time, here, in San Pablo.
I refer to San Pablo as a commuter's city. You just come home here, shop for groceries, and sleep here. At this moment, I cannot tell you anything all that historical about San Pablo. It rare gets news, but it is a city encircled by Richmond, California, one of the roughest cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Richmond is the city where that movie about "Coach Carter" took place when a high school teacher had the courage to prevent his school basketball team from playing because the student athletes did not have good enough grades.
Aside from that, I can tell you that the rock band Green Day grew up in the nearby city of Rodeo, infamous for being surrounded by oil refineries which when you drive towards Sacramento will be inundated with. They block the beauty of the inner part of the San Francisco Bay, but hey, oil is needed to travel anywhere, right?
Isn't it funny that Green Day refers to themselves as a San Franciscan band when in fact they are an East Bay band?
Yes, San Pablo is a part of Contra Costa County here on an geographical region known as the East Bay or across the bay east from San Francisco. The North Bay is Marin County and the South Bay is San Jose/Silicon Valley.
