How to get from San Francisco to San Rafael?
by rmadapati
I would like to know whats the best, cheapest and most optimal way to get from Powell Street, San Francisco to 5th Avenue, San Rafael is? I am totally new to San Francisco and any help on public transportation for this route would be greatly useful. I was thinking taking a cab, but I heard it could cost upwards of $70, which is astronomical for me, so is there a much cheaper and more optimal way to travel from San Fran to San Rafael? Please let me know...thanks a lot!

best is not cheapest
when you travel, choose one or the other; you CAN'T have both

Thanks a lot. Any idea how long it would take from San Fran Embarcadero to San Rafael via bus? So where the bus stop in San Rafael, do you think cabs would be easily available so I can get to my destination in San Rafael easily? Thanks a lot of your time and advice.

Sweeet, thanks! I took your advice and planned for my San Rafael trip based on it. Initially, my choice was ferry, but the bus is better since it gets me much closer to my destination. I guess I will just walk down from the San Rafael Central Bus Terminal to 5th avenue, I guess its about 15-20 min walk. Again, thanks a heap and of course, A VERY HAPPY DUSSHERA TO YOU AND YOUR FOLKS TOO...
Travel Tips for San Rafael
Winter Weather
by karenincalifornia
Although Marin County is dry in the summer and fall, the heavy rainfalls in the winter transform parts of the countryside into a lush rainforest. The golden grasses turn a bright emerald green and waterfalls materialize out of nowhere.
The most beautiful time to hike is immediately after a big rain storm.
Up with the birds

Our dawns in San Rafael will take your breath away. The sunrise is positioned over the bay and just behind the mountains in the East Bay. It is worth dragging yourself out of bed before the sun is up to see this.
Sunrise over San Pablo Bay
by karenincalifornia
San Rafael sits on the shores of San Pablo Bay, which is part of the greater San Francisco Bay. Parts of San Rafael have been developed right up to the shoreline. The southern and northern marshes, on the other hand, have been protected, creating a permanent refuge for wildlife and a place to admire natural beauty.
This picture was taken in the China Camp area, a State Park located about 15 minutes from my house.

There are some very good tips there!

Look towards Mount Tamalpais at sunset

Some of the most beautiful sights revolve around the weather on Mt. Tamalpias. Standing in the middle of Marin County, Mt. Tam draws the weather patterns and there can be amazing sights. This was a particularly gorgeous sunset sight on February 19, 2003.
