Stay overnight and visit other central coast towns

San Simeon is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but you can have a great time visiting nearby towns. The charming coastal town of Cambria is just 20 minutes away and there is also the lovely town of San Luis Obispo filled with history about 45 minutes down the road. Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel and Carmel Valley are not too far away and offer some of the best scenery California has to offer. The drive to Hearst Castle from any of these other towns is beautiful and interesting, plus there are also some nice California Wineries in the immediate area. Try these websites for more into:

Welcome to the fabulous HEARST CASTLE, the once opulent home belonging to newspaper publisher, Mr William Randolph Hearst. This castle is also known as La Casa Grande in Spanish.

Mr. Hearst's fortune came from the publishing business and with it, he embarked on a mission to create a SPECTACULAR American castle that would rival those found in Europe. Thus, Hearst Castle is now officially known by the State of California as the 'Hearst State Historical Monument at San Simeon'.

Here's a glimpse of the lovely Courtyard. It's getting to be foggy now..... yes, even in the middle of summer! :-)
Go figure.

Please note that FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY is NOT allowed in here.

Also be careful where you're walking around this area... and DON'T step onto the carpet!!! Why? Because the alarm bell will give a ear-piercing sound, that's why.

How do I know? I stepped on it, you see.... :-(( So embarassing!

I was here in October and the weather was quite cool, especially in the evenings. It got quite foggy too. I wore jeans and t-shirts and jacket for the evening. I am sure you could purchase any of these here if you needed however not too sure if I saw a chemist or a doctor anywhere... Plenty of this at the major attractions.
