Gateway Inn!: Closer, But Not Nicer!

Haven't stayed in this one either. I picked it to show you because it looked decent for a budget place and it was located very close to the border.

The name might suggest that this motel is connected to the new outlet mall, Las Americas, but it is not connected, nor is it related in any sense. Guess the main thing is that it is probably less expensive to stay here and it is very close to the border. Also they offer parking, which is so dear in this area.

The San Diego Trolley runs right past this motel and the San Ysidro Station is half a block away. There is a Mc Donalds next door for those late night munchies.

Rodeway Inn- San Ysidro: The Best Nearest The Border

Of course I haven't stayed here, but Travelodge has a decent reputation so I feel confident in suggesting it. . Many people don't care to stay in a chain type motel, but the advantages of doing so are that the prices are usually lower and because it is a big company, the standards of cleanliness are more viligently kept up.

Update:

This is no longer a Travelodge. The Travelodge moved to 190 East Calle Primera, San Ysidro, CA 92173 US. This building is now a Rodeway Inn.

It was remodeled to follow Rodeway style and I've heard that it's not as nice as when it was a Travelodge, but I can't say for sure. Of course, the price is low enough that some things could be overlooked. Interestingly it advertises that it is Gay friendly. I'd think that most hotels are but this seems especially so.

The location is a few blocks from Las Americas, a block from the border, and it offers free parking, Internet, continental breakfast. In room microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, hair dryers, and cable television with free HBO. They also have whirlpool bathtubs, non-smoking rooms and connecting rooms can be requested. Also there is a coin-operated laundry facility on site.

It seems to be nice enough, there is convenient free parking and the price of a room is resasonable, starts at $79.00. (2013)

This Rodeway Inn is up a hill which gives it a secluded feel that might be refreshing from the hustle and bustle of this very active area.
