Travel Tips for San Ysidro

Changing Your Money!

by lmkluque

Today there are fewer Casas de Cambio than there were years ago, but still all along San Ysidro Boulevard you will see them with their gaudy signs advertising the rates each place offers. As a cultural point it is interesting to see what other services they offer and they all do offer some other product or service.

This sign for RP International shows a better selling (Venta) than the place I've put under Tourist Traps, but the buying (Compra) rate is not as good. However, you can register your car here and get personalized license plates too.

So shop around before making the deal. Remember, you won't need to change your money if it is in US dollars.

"San Ysidro - International Border"

San Ysidro is a community within the City of San Diego.

It is located in the southernmost part of San Diego County,
immediately north of the international border with Mexico.

San Ysidro is named for San Ysidro Labrador, "Saint Isidore",
the patron saint of farmers.

San Ysidro is home to the world's busiest land border crossing,
where U.S. Interstate 5 crosses into Mexico at Tijuana.

family members through the rusty fence, all under the careful watchful
eye of U.S. Border Patrol personnel which watch with binoculars from
the hillside nearby ......

"Entering The United States"

San Ysidro, particularly for those entering
the U.S. in cars. For this reason many cross
on foot, the line for which is frequently much
faster than the vehicle line ......

"Car Entering The United States"

Some foot travelers own a car in each country, and
store them in one of the large parking lots located
near the border post, or use the respective public
transportation systems of both cities, both systems
have a bus station built solely to serve the border
crossing point ......
