Finding affordable accomodation in Santa Barbara near the water
Hi I will be visiting Santa Barbara the last few days in May of this year and would like to know where you would recommend staying...preferably waterfront but closeby would work too.
What would be the cheapest rate for something like that and where?

Check out VT auction on Country Inn by the Sea. See if this is within your price range. If you don't win this one, there is always a next time.

Thanks I will check that one out. I was born and brought up in California but have been away - lliving in Canada for 38 years!
I have a special reunion with someone and want to find a unique place a- about $100 a night is what I can afford.

The bidding ends in 14 hours and the price is at $235 for four nights. The picture looks good. I have no personal experience with this inn but, hey, Virtual Tourist is hosting the auction...

I'm afraid you will find very very little in your price range at that time of year in Santa Barbara. You might try the Coast Village Inn about 12 miles south in Montecito.

I was in SB at the beginning of the month and walked past tihs place which is on the sea front
Ala Mar Motel, 102 W.Cabrillo TEL: 805 962 9208 FAX: 805 966 3892
It looked OK, walkable to State St etc and if you go check out Sambo's on the waterfront for breakfast. Turn right fron the Ala Mar (hotel behind you) along Cabrillo.
Oh and The Brown Pelican is wonderful, right on the ocean. Arroyo Burro Beach, 1/2 Cliff Drive. We had b/fast there but they do lunch and dinner too.
