More about Inn By The Harbor
Great location, decent accomodations

Stayed here during Memorial Day weekend and booked last minute. I have a feeling we got a cancellation room. For $178/night, we had room 41 overlooking the pool with a large balcony. The room was very old fashioned feeling and seems like a converted apartment. All in all, the room was ok, but don't expect anything fancy. Everyone was pretty friendly and the morning breakfast was excellent. The location is perfect!
Couldn't be Happier

We stayed here for a long weekend in June for a wedding and were really pleasantly surprised. The hotel rating was only 2 stars, so our expectations were quite low. While it is laid out like a "Motor Inn," the cute country decor, the large fully equipped kitchen and super-friendly staff more than made up for that. They offer a great continental breakfast, wine and cheese in the evenings, and cookies and milk at bed-time! This hotel has a great location -- we walked to just about everything. Don't be put off by the tacky neon sign in front -- this place is great!
Great Place

We stayed at the Inn By the Harbor the last week of July. It was fantastic. The service was Grade A as all at the Front Desk were very helpful. The room was very nice, roomy, and comfortable. The contental breakfast was the best we ever had. A great selection of fruit, bagels, cereals, muffins, breads, boiled eggs, and coffee. The Cheese Wheel and wine was a very nice touch.
We will stay here again when we visit Santa Barbara again.
Disappointed

Stayed here 2 nights in August. We planned to stay longer but checked out earlier. The room was very old fashioned (we had a queen-queen deluxe).
The lady at the frontdesk, was not very helpfull. We had to print a e-ticket, we would'n't to pay for it, but she didn't let us.
The breakfast was ok.
very nice place

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the place was. The room was excellent, as was the continental breakfast. Very clean and well maintained, although desk staff were just OK. Would definately recommend. Good value for what you get.
Clean and Convinient Motel

We stayed for one night and were pleased with the accompodations and the property. It is a spruced motel with a quaint courtyard area. The rooms were clean. If you are on the road they do have a washer and dryer available on the premises.
A pleasant Stay

The picture of the entrance on the hotel's web site made this place seem more upscale than it was. But the rennovated room we stayed in was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Its bath was a little small, and the only internet access was through one computer in the lobby. The location was great. The staff was helpful. And (for the area) it was a good price for the room.
I would not return to the hotel for the wine/cheese/cookie reception -- go to the store and get something better. But the continental breakfast surprised me by being a little above average (if you want a full breakfast, go to Esau's on State Street).
OK, quiet but expensive

Our stay was in the 2 queen deluxe. The room was right near ther pool and very quiet at night (room 20). Like someone else mentioned the photos are a bit deceiving. It is a motel with a little garden courtyard, not a resort. The neighborhood is good but not great. The pool is the size you'd see in a suburban backyard but served it's purpose. The continental breakfast was a nice touch. The room was not new looking but was clean enough. I think for what we payed we could have had a similar experience at one of the chain motels, and saved 50-100 a night. Get a pricing confirmation in writing before showing up as the computer printed both nights at the saturday rate. They did not argue once I produced the on-line confirmation.
Nice for the price

The Inn by the Harbor is actually about 2 blocks from the harbor, but within walking distance to the harbor, the pier, and State Street. We had a queen room on the ground floor, and it was nicely decorated with "country" furniture and attractive bedding. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. There was a large sliding glass door opening on to the pleasantly landscaped courtyard. The bed was very comfortable. Only complaint was the lighting - very dim fluorescent lamps on either side of the bed made reading difficult. Front desk staff was friendly. The hotel offers afternoon wine and cheese, evening milk and cookies (store-bought), and continental breakfast. As we ate out, I cannot speak to the quality of the breakfast. They also have several different varieties of coffee and tea in "hot pots" in the lobby. All in all, a nice property for the price - we paid under $100 for a mid-week stay!
