traveling from SB to Carpinteria

by msuero21

I will be traveling to California for the first time. Other than car rental... What other transportation would be feasible from the Santa Barbara Airport to Carpinteria Ave. in the Carpinteria South area, located about 20 miles away?
Is there public transportation? How much would taxi service cost?

Whenever I need to get info on mass transit in a city

by PR-7

I do an Internet search for
"name of city I'm interested in" "mass transit"

When I did so with
"santa barbara" "mass transit"

I found this URL within thirty seconds:
www.sbmtd.gov

Which gives these maps:
www.sbmtd.gov/GRAPHIC%20ELEMENTS/Maps/System%20Map%202007/Goleta.jpg
www.sbmtd.gov/GRAPHIC%20ELEMENTS/Maps/System%20Map%202007/Montecito.jpg

These maps will tell you what buses to ride to get from the SB Airport to Carpinteria.

Travel Tips for Santa Barbara

Oil on Beaches

by greatguy

I love the beaches at Santa Barbara, but watch out for oil from natural seeps. The city beashes are pretty clean with less oil, but are very crowded in the summer. Depends on what you are looking for! Further, west the beaches have fewer people. They are closer to the oil seeps and more prone to have oil. This oil sticks to your feet. It will come off easily with mineral spirits or Coleman fuel. The water is warmer than I have ever experienced it this summer. Almost like the Caribbean waters. Makes one think "Global Warming" is real.

If you enjoy fishing, you should go fishing on the pier. The pier even has a parking lot on it if you want to drive, but it's nicer to walk. In the fishing area there are no rails so take care so that you won't fall off pier. :) There are big logs that you can sit on, restrooms are nearby, and there is also a bait shop. Also, try renting a bike and bike on the biking trails along the beach! It's fun! After biking, go shopping in the many shops of Santa Barbara.

Take in the beauty of the scenery. The beach, the mountains... They're more breath-taking in Santa Barbara than (almost) anywhere else! I miss the ambience, the sunshine, the great restaurants... Breakfast at Stearn's Wharf, while watching the surfers, paddlers and seals outside the window,

SUNDAY MORNING ART & CRAFTS

by travelgourmet

Every Sunday along Cabrillo Blvd. starting at Stearns Wharf and running East for a couple of blocks is the Santa Barbara Arts & Crafts Show with original handmade artwork by local artisans. You can view items from Animal toys to Zebra paintings. The prices are all up to the artist on location. They display their wares on easels to tables from 10am to dusk.

Mild Weather

by trvlnurse

Remember that the temperature within the day varies by 20 to 30+ degrees F., sunny days are warm enough for swim/summer wear but the evenings cool off enough to require a jacket or sweater. Inland and the foothills get quite a bit warmer than the coast- 10 to 20 degrees warmer and foggy days on the coast can be quite cool but the sun may appear any moment. Best advice for any outing is to layer or bring layers. It is not uncommon to for the day to begin at 50 degrees and by afternoon the temp is 80 degrees F. I am told , Santa Barbara weather is consistent year round.

http://santabarbaraca.areaguides.net/weather.html It is a given that one will want pictures of this scenic travel destination. Sunscreen and a hat is a must. Swimwear for the beach (unless you are going to the nude beach) and a wet suit if you are planning to enter the water(unless you are a penguin). Lots of walking and hiking are possible so bring comfortable shoes.
