Glenmore Hotel by Goner My most most pleasurable stay on Catalina was at the Glemore Plaza Hotel. It was built during the turn of the century and our room was all wicker with yellow and white striped furniture cushions. They have ocean view rooms and for a better price there are partial -view rooms and mountain-view rooms. Some rooms have whirlpool bathtubs. The hotel was part of a package which included the fare on the Catalina Flyer which was purchased through a travel agent. At the present (winter 2003) the hotel is advertising a winter rate at $99 for a 2 day, 1 night stay and roundtrip transportation from Long Beach, San Pedro, Dana Point or Newport Beach.
They serve a continental breakfast, offer free transportation to all the terminals, and give you free beach towels.

by GracesTrips Most of the hotels in Catalina are not considered 4 or 5 star hotels. A good value for your money is this Best Western hotel. When you arrive by boat, a van/shuttle is ready to pick you up to take you to the hotel and bring you back (literally - all day long). The shuttle also takes you into town as well. Only two hotels have swimming pools on the island and this is one of them. They also have a hot tub/jaccuzzi, too! You can play ping pong and they claim to have wireless internet access, though I wasn't able to log onto it during my visit. Go to the front desk to get the login and password. Might want to avoid staying in Catalina during holiday weekends. The partiers are out in force and we heard them throughout the evening and early morning hours. My second stay at this same hotel wasn't so great. The hair dryer didn't work too good. The room had a coffee maker with 1 packet of regular coffee and 1 packet of decaf. We decided to make a regular pot of coffee. When the room was made up, they didn't provide another packet of regular coffee for the next morning. We reserved a room for a king size bed but instead, 2 queens. Oh well, if we come back again, next time I try the Metropole. It's in town but looks nice. Taken from their website by pigletsmom This is an old boarding house that was turned into a hotel. Old Victorian building with small rooms, and old mattresses.
The price is right. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Rooms start at $25 a night in Winter. The hotel is funky with lots of character. The bungalows are interesting and set in their own courtyard. No air conditioning, just ceiling fans, at least in the cheaper rooms. Great location and easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and beaches. The hotel welcomes divers, and families with children.

I've never actually stayed at this hotel, I've seen it from the outside and it does look very nice. This is the oldest hotel on Catalina, a turn of the Century landmark. It's right next to the Metropole Market Place. They also serve a continental breakfast and have a roof-top sun deck and day spa facilities. Some have listed it as one of the best 10 hotels in the L..A. area. If it's off interest to you, the website is listed below.

Front Gate of the Inn of Mt. Ada by mht_in_la Since the 1920's, the Inn of Mt. Ada had been the residence of the Wrigley family, the chewing-gum millionaire and the original owner of Catalina Island. Located on hilltop overlooking Avalon Harbor, the Inn of Mt. Ada is now the top accommodation on the island, with rate starting from $400 per night in the summer.
Unlike most hotels in the city of Avalon, the Inn of Mt. Ada is high on hilltop and not easily walkable from ferry terminal. Not to worry, the Inn staff greet their guests in the terminal and equip them with the only transportation on island -- golf carts. But these are not your normal golf carts. These are the Rolls Royce of golf carts, with shiny green paint and beautiful drapery. I can see them from a mile away. I love watching these Mt. Ada carts running down the streets of Avalon.

My wife and I have gone to the Hotel MacRae a couple of times and plan to always go there when we visit Catalina Island. We have heard that there are a couple of other nice places that are inexpensive there, too, but we like our Hotel MacRae. It is right on the strip, clean, convenient, a GREAT price, the help is very friendly. They sometimes get a little bit of noise due to the obnoxious restaurant downstairs but we never hear anything when we're in our rooms. If you don't need to be overly pampered for an extra $150 a night this is the place to stay!
Video library for visitors. Walking distance from the ferry. Friendly desk help.

I've only stayed there once, as I usally stay with family or friends when I go to Catalina. But all of my friends use this hotel and are always satisfied.
Good location. It’s off the main street but still close to everything. All rooms were redecorated pretty recently. Staff and owners are really nice and have all lived on the island for most of their life. Prices are reasonable, compared to most of the hotels in Avalon. I’m pretty sure there is a two-night minimum during the summer on weekends. But just about every hotel has the same restriction.

Tiny room on boardwalk. Near all the noisy bars but who cares, you're in Catalina! Hotel does special off season packages that include boat fare and one nights stay. Worth the trip. Nice people. Has sun deck for (somewhat) privacy. Try to get a room at the back. Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: AvalonDirections: Get off boat. Walk 200 yards into town. Check in hotel. Total time walking from boat = 10 minutes.

Hermosa Hotel by mht_in_la Unless you camp, this is the cheapest hotel you can find in Catalina. I've stayed here many times. The cheapest units have no TV, no air conditioning, and you have to use the communal shower and bathroom. But that's fine with me as I don't stay in the room that much. The cost of the room is about $35 to $50 depending on the season. Although Hermosa Hotel is not by the beach, its location is actually better than many of the more expensive ones. It's on the same block as the Von's supermarket, and only 1 block away from the Island Plaza where all the tour buses gather.
