    Yes, it's expensive. But if you want to be directly on the beach, with a swimming pool overlooking the beach, wharf and boardwalk; and if you want a decent restaurant (with wine list) attached to the hotel.; if you want full room service; if you want to be guaranteed a view of the ocean, a balcony, free valet parking, and very friendly service -- well, then, this is your hotel. The rooms are good quality, with a small refrigerator and decent bathroom. Also a coffee maker is available in your room.

    We wanted the view and to be directly on the beach and were willing to pay for it - but we were able to get it below the regular going rate for a summer weekend (Friday-Saturday) which is normally $309 per night for a double.
    It might not always work, but it's worth trying.

    Go ahead and make your reservation for the $309 per night price. (There is no penalty if you cancel within 48 hours of your first night.)

    Then check back EVERY DAY starting about 3 weeks before you arrival. When they aren't full, they eventually drop the price to $229! You can make a new reservation, and cancel the old one. Voila! You've saved $80 per night!

    (The price goes down during the week and at other times of the year - also they have AAA and AARP rates - but not on summer weekends.)

    Only hotel on the beach with great views across the bay to Monterey (when the fog lifts). Nice pool, hot tub, restaurant and free valet parking.
