VT Meeting
by zrim
Drove down to Santa Monica for the VT Meeting with Ernst (worldtrekker) and his roomate Justin. Justin was leery--a meeting, that doesn't sound like fun. Do you have roll call, and minutes, discuss old business, new business?
But Justin was enlightened by Santamonicaboy (Drago) who explained that you drink as much beer as possible at a VT Meeting. In Yubert's case, that is one beer before he starts wobbling.
Santa Monica's weather is...

Santa Monica's weather is great all year round, always mild, during the winter months December through March, you may encounter a few rainy days. But in general the weather is in the mid 40's through the high 60's, during that time of the year. The rest of the year the weather is great. Do not forget to visit the Santa Monica pier and the Santa Monica Promenade is a must!! Having been living here for the past 25 years, all the wonderful places to eat and relax. People from all over the world come to visit us. We do have some interesting art galleries. When I am away from home, I miss most of all the beautiful sunsets, especially in Autumn.
People's Republic of Santa Monica
by giampiero6
Well, Santa Monica used to be jokingly called the People's Republic of Santa Monica because of it's supposed left-ish bent. ) A kind of Berkeley of Southern California if such is possible) It's true that Santa Monica has a more left bent and that the mayor is from the Green Party (a tiny fringe party in the US not like Europe) but increasingly Santa Monica is becoming more pro-business and developer friendly. Still, Santa Monica toyed with a 'living wage' referendum, regularly plays host to homeless soup kitchens, and has instituted some rules to keep chains from forcing small businesses out of prime locations (sadly not very effective.) Unlike other westside enclaves that are part of Los Angeles like Venice or West LA, Santa Monica like being independent.

SANTA MONICA PIER
This 100 years old pier is the landmark of Santa Monica.
It has been a favorite spot for filming: The Sting, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cop, The Net, along with television programs such as Baywatch.
It also offers an amusement park with a ferris wheel and roller coaster, an arcade, an historic carousel, restaurants and a superbe view to the huge surrounding beach!
