Good value hotels

by darrmont

I am planning on staying a few nights around the Santa Monica area and would like to stay close to the beach although to get better value I am happy to go a bit as I have a car. I wonder is there any area close to the coast where car parking is likely to be free for guests and reasonably priced hotels.

Just a few minutes away is Marina del Rey and on Washington St. is the Holiday Inn Express. It is used by many Europeans and has good value. Continental breakfast and free parking. I visited a fellow VTer at this hotel and it is not fancy but clean. Only about 5 minutes to Santa Monica via Venice Beach. Close to beach and LAX as well. Look up their site be going to http://www.ichotelsgroup.com and put in US and Marina del Rey, CA under location.

Travel Tips for Santa Monica

Visit the Santa Monica Pier

by mafootje

If your done with playing on the beach for a while, you can always go to the pier. Street artist are showing their skills for you to watch. But you can also take a spin in the Ferris Wheel. Or ride the coaster and on top of it all you get a great view of the ocean and the beach...

Third Street Promenade is a fun place to go with the family or with a date. The outdoor mall is always a busy attraction with street performers performing on a nightly basis. The pier, a short walk from third street is perhaps Santa Monica's trademark attraction and has amusement rides, restaurants and a really good outdoor concert series.

More VT Meeting

If you go to a sanctioned VT Meeting with VT personel you get free stuff. Tilman came armed with caps and t-shirts. Of course, the t-shirts were all Yubert-sized so I didn't get one. But I like my VT cap. I wore it to the desert on Sunday.

Still More VT Meeting

The key to any good VT Meeting is to soak up as much beer as possible. Let's face it, you will be meeting a bunch of strangers. People who apparently have no social lives, because they think the height of fun on a Friday night is to meet up with a bunch of strangers they only know (or do not know) through the internet. The topic of conversation is: "Hey how 'bout all that auction spam that keeps filling up my mailbox." Really, beer is the only solution. After four pitchers everyone will seem like your new best friend.
