Nice Hotel

Nice hotel very expensive, used points for room nights. Breakfast buffet was nice, dinner was over priced and below average. Hotel staff was very nice and responsive, although some seemed clueless to policies and procedures. Rooms were nice size, but did not come with a frig. They did deliver one on request for no charge. We had an ocean view, you need to look hard to find anything that looked like ocean. Excellent location 1/2 block to I-5 and walking distance to the promenade. Nice outdoor pool on the 3rd floor. Good location to explore the LA area
Decent Hotel -- Way too Expensive

Spent about $375 a night for a fairly spacious room. The hotel is clean and the rooms are fine. The restaurant is so so and the coffee cart is about the only casual food. You have to drive to get anywhere to shop, eat, etc. and you are basically about a block off of the freeway. Overall the hotel is nice, but between location and lack of amenities in the hotel this is way too pricey unless your company doesn't care about your expense account!
Quite acceptable

Here for 4 nights. Amazingly, and importantly because autos rule the LA area, within short walking distance of pretty good restuarants (the Lobster at Santa Monica Pier, Real Food Daily (vegan) and a Benihana Steak House) as well the Promenade - a good show. The hotel staff was pleasant and courteous. The rooms large and pretty well kept. Breakfast buffet is quite edible. Basically, the place makes me think of what a high-end Holiday Inn would look like if it existed.
Nice but better for business travelers

I stayed here with my husband and two children for four nights. The positives were the size of the one bedroom suite and the location which is walking distance from the Pier and 3rd Street Promenade. The staff was accomodating and friendly. The negatives were the pool area is small and not inviting, there is no safe in the room and the walls are thin. Also, I could hear the traffic from the highway even from the 8th floor. I think this hotel is overpriced and better suited for business travelers. I would try Loews instead next time.
Best nights sleep ever!

We stayed here 2 nights and had the best nights sleep ever in a hotel room. It was very clean, some of the staff are very unfriendly and the view wasn't so great but was all worth it for the comfort of that bed! We walked to the beach and back at night and didn't feel uncomfortable. Go to Priceline and name your rate.
Much better than expected!

I must say that the Doubletree Suites in Santa Monica was amazing! The beds were SUPER comfortable and for the price I paid (on priceline) it was beyond worth it! Its a great location, right near 3rd street promenade, and its a couple of streets away from the beach. The staff were very friendly and you are able to get a fridge if you want. The one thing i didn't like was the price for the parking and the ocean-view room...they were doing construction so you always saw the construction site before the beach.
I would definetly stay here again!
nice hotel but a bit overpriced

We stayed at the doubletree suites for 3 nights which made it quite an expensive end to our trip however the rooms were very big, clean and beds very comfortable so it sort of made up for it.
Staff were very good and the added bonus of this hotel is it has a quite pleasant outdoor pool, jacuzzi and sun deck on the third floor, great for relaxing after being out in the city all day.
My experience of the reception satff was that they were very thoughtful too.
Some Bumps in the road but they sure over came them!

We stayed 4 nights here from April 4-8. On our 2nd night they lost power due to a blown transformer and it stayed out for about 24 hours. While the repairs took longer than they thought, they did everything possible to make the inconvenience more tolerable including complementary food and lodging for the down time. The rooms are very nice, large and clean. The staff could not have been friendlier. Great location for getting in and around LA with the benefits of local Santa Monica sights.
Great Hotel...would recommend it.

My wife and I stayed for two nights and found the hotel wonderful. We didn't use the pool or jacuzzi, bu the exercise room was fine. The suite was spacious, the bed very comfortable. The walk to the pier took 10 minutes and even though it wasn't a scenic 10 minutes, walking late at night we felt very safe. As for price, we called ahead and got a $169 special as long as we agreed to a no-cancellation policy. We didn't expect a scenic view so we weren't disappointed....it was of a municipal garage during construction. The only drawback was that we we're loudly wakened at 7:18 am saturday morning by the noise from the construction site. The manager was good about it, apologizing, explaining the situation, and giving us complimentary parking & buffet breakfasts. The buffet was fantastic! I'd recommend staying there for $169. Just make sure you ask for a room away from the construction site.

Santa Monica Hotels - Travelodge and Best Western
by lmclaughlin1216
Saw 3 hotels under 200 on Trip Advisor and trying to make a decision:
1. Travelodge - 1525 Ocean Avenue - About 45 more a night but close to ocean - worth it? Area OK?
2. Travelodge - 3102 Pico Boulevard away from the beach but 45 a night less
3. Best Western - 1920 Santa Monica Boulevard - 170 per night
Appreciate your thoughts and advisement/ Larry McLaughlin

Hello. Staying on Ocean Ave. would be worth $45. more in my opinion. There may be another Best Western franchise (maybe called Marina Best Western???- can't remember) on Pacific Ave. if you want to be on the Venice Beach/Marina end. Either way, you can cover the whole area if you stay at the Ocean one. You'll be close to the Santa Monica Pier based on what I see on the map. Good Luck.

Also, you will find neat apartment rentals on VRBO.COM - Vacation Rentals By Owner - I use them to rent out my Palm Springs condo and they have some good resources.
