Santa Paula's Historic Hotel

The Glen Tavern Inn is a historic hotel in downtown Santa Paula where we stayed while in town for a friend's wedding. It was originally built in 1911, when Santa Paula was an oil boomtown. In subsequent decades, it hosted a number of Hollywood stars, who stayed there while filming movies in the area. It also contained a speakeasy, where those stars were entertained.

The hotel was purchased by a family from the Los Angeles area in 2004, and they have since been renovating it. Those efforts were set back by a fire in the restaurant that damaged other parts of the hotel, but are still ongoing. Our room was comfortable, but not over the top in terms of luxury. One interesting thing about the Glen Tavern Inn is that many people believe that it is haunted. On one of the nights that we were there, a group of ghost hunters was hanging out in the lobby waiting for a ghost to haunt them.
