Lake Henshaw Resort: A Great Get-Away from the City

Lake Henshaw is actually located in Santa Ysabel. At the Resort they offer "self-serve" Cabins for 2-7 people, complete with all the equipment needed to-set-up house. Also they offer two camping sites.

WARNING:

The Resort has burned to the ground, in a raging firestorm on 29 October 2003. It is not known if the Resort will be rebuilt, but I will post the information if that happens.

UPDATE:

SYGIRL wrote to me Sat Dec 1, 2007:

"I live in Santa Ysabel, the Lake Henshaw store and resort are still there! The fire was not near the resort, restaurant nor the Santa Ysabel Mission.

Thanks SYGIRL!

Since she wrote this in December of 2007 that means that the Resort survived the 2007 Witch Creek Fire in October too!

What makes this place unique is that it's in an isolated, forested area in the mountains but not far from "the big city." While traveling it is difficult to find a nice metropolitan area near such a rustic place. Nor close enough for a day trip to either.

The cabins include linens, cooking and dining equipment so you don't have to drag camping equipment all over the country. Unless, of course you want to and then they can set you up too.

Lake Henshaw Resort: Cabins, RV's and Camp Grounds

Staying at the cabins in Lake Henshaw requires reservations and if it's on a weekend, the cabins must be rented for the three days. If during a weekend holiday, they must be rented for the four days.
Cabin Rental, $64.80 to $86.40 per day + tax There is a discount for staying a full week and it would be a good idea to check their website as they offer Coupons reducing the price a bit more.

RV Park and Camp Grounds are available so what ever level of comfort appeals, it's here at Lake Henshaw.

If you have time while visiting San Diego try staying here for a couple of days. It is a relaxing way to enjoy the lake, the mountains and the forest.

The cabins overlook the lake, there are hiking trails and the lake is full of fish. They do have a pool and spa a grocery store and kids play ground and a laundry room.

However, it's the location at the bottom of the Palomar Mountains that is the best aspect especially if you love the outdoor luxury of water and forest.

I do have to mention the The Roundup BBQ Grill which I've eaten at many times since I was a child and loved the old time atmosphere
