What to do in Marin County?

by we135b

My wife and I will be in Marin county for a day. We like the outdoors as well as shopping/dining. Any recommendations as the "must see" areas. The coast looks interesting but what is the best part? Is Sausalito worth the visit?

If you've never seen a redwood forest you can drive to Muir Woods and stop in Stinson Beach while you're at it. You can also drive up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais for an incredible view of SF Bay.

Sausalito is crowded, touristy and way overdeveloped, but if you want some good shopping that's a good place to go. Have a meal in one of the waterfront restaurants like Horizons Restaurant on Bridgeway Avenue. Take the first Sausalito exit and follow the road down to the water level and you'll see it over the water on your right.

Travel Tips for Sausalito

Bring a jacket

by SoulFlower69

I actually stayed in Point Bonita, but of course went to Sausalito to shop. Beautiful city, The Bay and the Ocean sandwiched with a fabulous city in between. I would love to return when the weather is a bit warmer. My fondest memories of Sausalito, is the peaceful sleep I got while there. Once the lights are out, the LIGHTS are out. Especially up on Point Bonita, where I stayed. You heard nothing, and your mind was FREE.

A GREAT PLACE TO WALK AND VIEW THE BAY.

by Waalewiener

Well what I suggest is to do at least a walk along Bridgeway Avenue
As you see in this picture you can walk very comftably along the Bay here and on your way back you can shop till you drop at all the nice Stores and Boutigues ,and yes also Ice
Cream Stores. For those who like shopping go across the street ,but if you like to view the Bay like Lori is doing in the picture then stick to the water
side.Have fun ,we sure did.

Herring fishing

by jessicadf

Once or twice a year the herring shoals make their way to the shores of Sausalito. Fast on their flippers come the fishing fleet, sealions and seagulls. Somehow this always happens at night, and we wake to the midnight sounds of clanking nets, seagull caws and sealion barks. Walk outside and smell the salt air from the churned waters. I love this event...

Beautiful Homes are build in the Sausalito hills.

by Waalewiener

As you can see int this picture Sausalito is a favorite spot for people that like to live away from the hussle ans bussle ,and a house up in these Hills will definate be the place to be
The view from up there must be stunning.

PLeasantly in the shade of the city.

Sausolito is, because of it's pleasantposition in the sadow of the larger and worldfamous San Francisco, a off the beaten path-destination in itself. Walking thestreets here brings you to rest and sitting along the shore aenjoying the magnificent views over the bay can last forever.
