These statues appeared at the 1915 Pan-Pacific Exposition, along with the beautiful fountain at the center of the plaza. The guardian elephants were designed by McKim, Meade & White and given to Sausalito by William B. Faville.
The plaque on the base reads: March 5, 1960 This is dedicated to our sister city, Vina Del Mar, Chile. We were amused to see this, because we've been to Vina Del Mar, Chile, which is a neighbor of Valparaiso and a very lovely town.
