Travel Tips for Sausalito

Views of the San Francisco Skyline

by Gypsystravels

The views!! There are just stunning. Walking along Bridgeway you'll come to a point where the views of San Francisco on a beautiful clear day will stop you in your tracks. Take your time to wonder out to the bay and to the skyline and of course take some pics.

Best views over the bay to San Francisco

by Pavlik_NL

Living here must be a thrilling pleasure. Wouldn't it be a dream to commute to work in San Francisco by boat every day? It at least spares out the one time tol over the Golden Gate bridge (-: Great views along Golden Gate Bridge to The City on the Bay.

Weather

by keeweechic

Sausalito is right on the water and therefore can get the fog and mist which comes off the bay. Most of the fog has burnt off by early afternoon but like San Francisco itself, it can stay engulfed for most of the day. Average temperatures range from 40 to 74 degrees.

Sartaj India Cafe a Must!

by adriennejohnson

Sartaj India Cafe is a must for any visitor to Sausalito. See, Sausalito is distinctly divided into three parts: there is the part for tourists (downtown area boutiques, stretching to ferry terminal), the part for the more esoteric houseboaters, artists, musicians (which contains nearly all the houseboats and low-level houses), and the smallest part for the rich people in mansions who live on the hills above Sausalito.

Sartaj India Cafe is a place most tourists aren't able to experience. It is most frequented by the artists and musicians who either live on the houseboats or around Broadway St. It is a small Indian restaurant which serves delicous food. An Indian couple run it and they are very friendly and helpful.

The prices are, admittedly, a little steep for the lack of service (as in waiters/waitresses) but most food is around Marin County, and Sartaj is so popular and has such a loyal clientele, that people would still come no matter how much the prices were raised.

My favorite: the Samosas. I go to Sartaj two or three times a week and I usually buy two Samosas and a Chai tea. The total comes to $5.90 For a full meal, the veggie burrito or meat curries are the way to go. The Chai tea is also delicous and cold water is available upon request. The meals run around $6-10, usually with a somosa and always with rice.

The address is 43 Caledonia Street. It is near the movie theater and next to an Italian restaurant and a Thai cafe. It is slightly away from the tourist part of town, but worth the 5 minute drive, or 10 minute walk.

Sartaj India Cafe is a delicous, out of the way, and slightly esoteric place to eat. My reccomendation for it is without reserve.

Climb up the chicken ladder to the top of the hill

by jessicadf

As you climb up the hill you'll see gorgeous homes, stunning views and charming little spots, hidden away from general view.

Nearly at the top of the hill, on Cloudview Road, is this little playground. This is half a block up the hill from where my mother grew up and where my grandmother lived. When I was born, family friends bought this little bit of land and gave it to the city of Sausalito with the proviso that it be turned in to a playground. The idea being that they wanted me to have a place to play when I visited my granny. Sweet.
