Sebastopol is a beautiful town. We have lived here for 25 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. Rolling hills, beautiful orchards and wineries, a short distance from Bodega Bay. The nice weather! Even when it rains, this is a beautiful place.
In 1964, Stewart and Audrey Barber began what was to become Sonoma Horticultural Nursery with an emphasis on growing and hybridizing Exbury Azaleas. When Polo de Lorenzo and Warren Smith purchased the nursery in 1976, it consisted of the gardens by the house and the growing grounds which is now the parking lot and lath houses. At the time, the rest of the property was overgrown with nettles and blackberry vines. Over the years, Polo and Warren have stabilized the banks of the spring-fed pond and Blutcher creek and cleared away the weeds in order to create the gardens that exist today. There are now seven and a half acres of gardens and nursery with over one and a half miles of pathways for you to explore & enjoy.

Designed around old time family fun, every August Ragle Ranch Park hosts the Gravenstein Apple Fair. Reflecting eclectic Sonoma Valley history from conservative right spectrum to leftist throwback hippies, church ladies mingle peacefully amid tie-dyed graying long hairs. Musical entertainment from Elvis impersonators to Queen Ida and her Cajun tunes waft on the air along with apple pies, frying apple fritters and barn yard animals.
Refresh yourself under mist in the mist tent. Sample foods at local apple growers displays. Enjoy craft vendors, landscape painters, and ethnic food booths. Listen as story tellers weave their majical tales.
Join in or watch with amazement and disgust as contestants gorge themselves for top prize in the applesauce eating, apple juice drinking or apple pie eating contests. One winner attributed his amazing ability to lots of practice swilling drinks on weekends.
